The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Happy independence day

070703_fireworks_hmed_6a Wednesday's broadcast will take place as usual with Lester Holt substituting for Brian, but the blog will take a pseudo-hiatus this Independence Day.
Our one post -- the Early Nightly -- by director Brett Holey will offer you a down-time tour of the construction zone of our new broadcast studio. And, of course, you should feel free to peruse some of the previous postings you might have missed, including our continuing recognition of the living Medal of Honor recipients.

So, until tomorrow, all of us here at NBC Nightly News wish you a happy, safe and festive Independence Day.

Here's a note for you, on our "Independence Day" ( As meaningless as it's now becoming ! ). Words mean nothing, if they aren't followed by relevant action. We're talking about how great this country 'still' is ( Pax - Americana ? ), as it's slowly self - destructing; from it's own internal "Cancer", just like the Roman Empire did. Everyone knows that a 'problem' exists, but; nobody is really DOING anything about it, hoping it will just "go away". IT'S NOT GOING TO !! Why can't anybody 'see' the signs, as the entire world is waiting for us to eviscerate ourselves ( Like Wolves circling a sick Elk ! ); so they can position themselves on the "great Chess board", that our planet is becoming !

Hope you, Lester, Brian, and everybody else at Nightly had a safe, happy Independence Day! I had to miss the newscast last night and ended up watching a DVD instead because our local cable system had an outage, which is extremely rare. It was a marvelously funny DVD though, with a theme that oddly tied into July 4th--"American Dreamz." I won't tell you who the President and First Lady reminded me of--you'll have to see it for yourself:)
