Battlefield Tour
Good afternoon from New York, where we are busy preparing tonight's NBC Nightly News.
Here in the newsroom we just heard from NBC's Jim Maceda in Baghdad who just returned to our bureau after being given rare access to tour the battlefield with America's top commander in Iraq. He spent the day with Lt. General David Patraeus flying over, and landing in the infamous 'triangle of death" to get a handle on how the troop surge is working. The video he described to us over the phone sounds amazing, and we look forward to airing Jim's report tonight, and hearing what General Patraeus has to say about where things stand.
Tonight we will also look ahead to an in-depth series our partner the Washington Post is beginning tomorrow on Vice-President Dick Cheney, and in particular his influence in defining the administration's policy on the war on terror. Our John Yang will look at that, and also at questions being raised about how the VP handles classified documents.
We will update the search for a missing Ohio mother, a story that has been getting wall-to-wall play on the cable networks this week.
Kerry Sanders will tell us about a showdown brewing in Florida over property taxes, and Lisa Meyers has a story about a US Navy veteran whose trip to Iraq landed him in a secret military prison.
As always, thanks for stopping by the site and checking-in. I'll see you on TV.

Good Evening Mr.Holt, The report by Mr. Maceda showed how General Petraeus is working extremely hard to make this surge work. I don't really know how they withstand the 115 degree heat wearing those uniforms, but they are used to it. The footage from the helicopter was very interesting seeing the battlefield below. I do hope that he and his troops are succesful in their surge. I just wish it would come to a peaceful end sooner. As I have said before may all the journalists in the Middle East stay safe! Thank you for the broadcast Mr.Holt! See you on Sunday! Peace to all!

Mr. Holt It is amazing to see after the criminal acts done in Watergate with the laws set to make sure those crimes never happen again only to find out Nixon's student Dick Cheney has been using the Nixon crime book. Cheney said he is from the 4th Branch of government yet he is the head of the Senate. People taking the citizenship test know more about the United States Government functions then Americans. No wonder Bush/Cheney can make rules as they want with the GOP followers playing along. Americans would stand up and stop this if they understood what a Vice President's job. Nixon worked in secret and look what happen, now Cheney is doing the same thing and crimes are committed. I noticed that reports that the Senate and Congress are to blame for what is happening yet no word on the 109th Congress and Senate that rubber stamped Bush's criminal acts for 6 years. By the time Americans wake up to what's going on in this country we'll be so dip in trouble it will take generations to get out.
As to Iraq well it's vacation time. Our troops are being killed in large numbers as the Generals give the same lip service and word of staying the course continue. First it was Sept. as the date to show cause to stay in Iraq, now the White House spoke people are talking about 10 years or more. Our troops are tired and no replacements are given because Bush will keep them there as long as he in office. More information is coming out about all the players in this illegal invasion of Iraq and the stolen money and pay offs. The media shows one soldiers family that says stay the course no matter how many more die and as long as it takes. Yet the media never shows the thousands of other families that tell the truth and don't want more soldiers to die. I guess that's why the public doesn't buy that story of the media being fair/balanced in reporting. We are shown a person saved by the US military but not the thousands killed by accident or millions of homeless Iraq people. We have taken 700 Iraq people while millions have fled. The word Al Qaeda is used to keep the fear going reality is the Iraq people are fighting and killing each other for control. But it sounds better to use the word Al Qaeda and Bin Liden to get the American people's attention. Our injured soldiers are denied treatment while we watch the chosen Iraq people given the best the US has and then continued cared. Something is really wrong with that picture. We need a President and Vice President that put the American people first and one that wont lie and neglect our Military.
