The Internet's role in Fort Dix plot
Six men described by federal prosecutors as "Islamic militants" were arrested on charges they plotted to attack the Fort Dix Army base and "kill as many soldiers as possible," authorities said Tuesday.
A former senior U.S. intelligence official tells NBC News do not lose sight of the role the Internet played in inspiring these prospective jihadis. The FBI affidavits note that among the materials used in organizing, training and proselytizing the jihadis were al-Qaida training videos, the video wills of two 9-11 hijackers, and videos of U.S. soldiers being killed in Iraq.
The leader of the group is described as smiling while watching the deaths of the U.S. soldiers.
"You know the world has changed when videos shot in Iraq and Afghanistan can be an inspiration for a bunch of Albanians in Cherry Hill, N.J.," said the official.
He noted that the Internet also helped in the recruitment and inspiration of jihadis who planned terrorist attacks in places like Singapore and England.
"The guys in Singapore, all middle class, were all recruited off the network of jihadi Web sites," he added.
What is missing and needed, he added is, a "countervailing message" from moderate Islamists.
"Where is the countervailing message from Islam on the Internet?," he asked. "They aren't going to believe anything we in the West have to say. It has to come from Islam."

I don't like this story. It's too easy!
Passing videos of yourselves with guns to a photo clerk? These dumb "terrorists" haven't lived in America for long.
Real terrorists like the Al-Q look for soft targets, these bumbling bunch going head-to-head with soldiers with guns themselves just doesn't ring right.

I am very happy to learn of the apprehension of the Islamic millitants.
Even though I am a Canadian I have been following the progress of the anti-terrorism squad in the U.S.

I agree that moderate Muslims will need to play an important role. To be honest, real Islam does not support the extremist view of the world. These people want to implement the laws that were in place by leaders following Prophet Mohammad's death. These laws are called "Sharia" laws. These are not in Quran; these were made up by the political leaders thousand years ago.
The educated, moderate Muslims need to be organized to combat global terrorism. CIA needs to recruit American Muslims who are loyal to the constitution and the flag of the United States. American Muslims can play a vital role in fighting terrorism.
My question is how come CIA is not recruiting American Muslims.
The terrorists are the worse thing of our time. They need to be stopped. The war on terror needs to be fought on various levels. We need to stop the spread of messed up version of Islam. We need to make sure people understand the true Islam. We need to make sure Madrasas are converted to modern schools in the Muslim world. We need to fight terror.
American Muslims are the greatest asset when it comes to fighting terror. We need to step up recruiting American Muslims in the CIA.

why are the muslims in New Jersey saying that we should not use the term "Islamic militants". Is it not clear that these people are Islamic (i.e. radical muslims) AND militants. so instead of crying wolf shouldn't the moderate muslims be clearly denouncing these radicals and appologise to everyone that they the moderates have failed in preventing their religion from being hijacked by these radicals. the moderates are the ones who should be doing their spring cleaning and weed out these radicals mostly the priests who are spreading the hate and violence. as they have obviously failed in this respect they should allow the government agencies to do their task instead of protesting
