The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

I would like to send a donation to the fine boy. It is a shame that he is cought in the center of the war.

3 steps forward and 1 step back is still progress...the kind of progress seen in wars. Thank you for reporting on the forward movement and not just focusing on the setbacks.

Some journalists speak as if they expect everything to go perfectly...and when it doesn't, say it's time to give up the fight. How many of these journalists have actually served in the military and know that their way of life is a result of many touch and go battles fought over time by the American military? How many of them clearly see how their way of life hangs in the balance of this brutal battle?

Rather than making pompous pronouncements about mistakes, you appear to recognize that there are always obstacles when defending against ruthless enemies and that it behooves all Americans to pull together....not divide ourselves and thus our strength.

Those of you with broadcasting capability need to be especially careful with your words, as they are heard by friend and foe...and ultimately used against our troops.

There are some in your profession who are using the war to service their blind ambition...professing to be fighting for the soldiers while actually using them as fodder for ratings and book deals.

Thank you for pointing out the progress being made in a long hard fight. Those who have witnessed the progress have no respect for networks which choose to ignore it.
