About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Early Nightly is up

Earlynightly_82Brian anchors the broadcast tonight from New York, where a few hour's drive to the north they're experiencing whiteout conditions and near-record snowfalls. Pulaski, N.Y., is buried under 88" of snow, with more on the way. Correspondent Peter Alexander reports tonight from nearby Oswego, N.Y.

Those of us who live here in Central N.Y. know that the heaviest snow fall is north of I-90. This amount of snow is not unusual there. They get it every few years. The Tug Hill plateau gets it every year and they depend on it for the hugh snowmobile business. The ski slopes were praying for snow as well. It's a big industry in these parts.

I was born in Manhattan and Raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, I thought until today that three feet of snow was terrible. I really feel for the people that are being effected by this horrific blizzard.

i just hope that someone remembers to tell the reporters that Oswego, Pulaski, Parish etc NY are not in WESTERN ny, but are, in fact, in Central and Northern New York. this ain't Buffalo people, it's a whole other Lake!

Be sure to cover Murtha treating the DoD. Talk about Hubris and arrogance.

I understand parts of upstate New York are supposed to get 100 inches of snow. Where's global warming when you need it?
