What Holiday weekend?

I've worked the Friday after Thanksgiving as long as I can remember. And as long as I can remember, it has always been a struggle to fill the half hour with news. Not tonight.

First, there's the news from Iraq and the ongoing, deplorable violence there. I found it interesting to learn that in an attempt to restore calm after yesterday's awful massacre, it was reported that Iraqi television aired some of the favorite shows from the past -- dating back to the Saddam era -- in hopes that they would have a "soothing" effect and help to assist in the mourning process and restore the peace. Sadly, this new day brought new violence almost too deplorable to report. We will have two reports tonight.

We will also report on the spy story from London which has ended in mystery. Domestically, it's Black Friday for retailers (even though it's no longer the biggest retailing day). We will also cover a Congressional election in Florida that is far from settled. And with the movie "Bobby" now in theaters, we have a great story about the legendary Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

And we have a great MAKING A DIFFERENCE segment this Friday night.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
After spending 10 hours on the road yesterday, I feel a special closeness to my fellow road warriors out there. You know who you are, and there were a lot of you. To the guy who raced ahead to get one car length ahead of me at the merge in Nyack last night: Did you have to do that? I ended up passing you anyway. To all those who were stuck in the flooding on the Garden State Parkway Northbound at Exit 120: remember, you can take Route 35 straight north to the Turnpike interchange.

To all those who are traveling today and tonight, including all of my wife's relatives headed to our house: travel safely. Enjoy the weekend. We hope you can join us for our Friday night broadcast, and I'll see you on Monday.

I would like to see the number as a total of Americans killed in this country daily in murders, auto accidents, alcohol related deaths and smoking as compared to those killed in a war defending our country. I would also like to see your broadcasts from a smaller liberal slant. Just to let you know, I would vote for my Beagle before I voted for Hillary!!!!

Brian: I understand that the show contained a a "crawler" at the end of my wifes' passing. Thank you so much. It was such a joy for Steve, Laura and myself. Best regards, Paul Capus

I tried real hard to watch you and understand how you deliver the news. Honestly, I don't trust you, I don't like you point of view and I know you are a liberal that rather have a democrat for president.

I grew up watching Peter Jennings and really the only way I can turn for real news is the internet and Foxnews.

Hi Brian
The Russian spy's death brings more worry on undetectable killings. This case may never be solved.
Cheney was summoned to the Saudi's to give report on current plan. I noticed they didn't summon President Bush I guess we now know who's calling the shots in the White House. With the Democrats in charge all those backroom secret deals with the Saudi's might come out. Cheney is in a ruff spot now that he has to report to his Boss as most in the US thought Cheney was the man in charge we were wrong. I just saw the funniest article about the Presidential Republican ticket it read McCain/Lieberman now that was so strange. Lieberman is all over the map he says he's Dem/Indep./Republican I guess he'll lie to all three groups since it worked in the Senate election. McCain is so sad he's looking for the White House to use the plan they used to win the election as Karl Rove master plan of using religion/fixed machines to win. I hope we can clean the swamp fast it's so dirty.

Dear Brian,
Last evening, we were saddened by your "In Memoriam" to Mrs. Capus as your broadcast came to a close. We hope you will pass along our condolences to the Capus family for their loss.

At one time I would have been in favor of sending 500,000 troops to Iraq to put a stop to this civil war before it ever got started. Now, I'm not sure any number of troops would surfice. I stil feel the US let this happen to inflame the entire Middle East.

On a lighter note, my main traffic tip for people is when pulling out from a red light, don't leave so much room between the car in front... This should be an experiment on your What Works segment to see how many cars can actually make it through a light when we keep it close as opposed to 2- to 3-car lentghts. I'll bet it is double or tripple the amount!

Automated traffic systems can be a god send and will be much needed to save gas and to decrease traffic. That might be another What works topic as I think Atlanta has a pretty advanced system in place since the Olympics. Some traffic lights can be totally backwards to the actual flow of traffic which is why I often recommend people just go through them (after stopping) in the middle of the night when no one else is coming!

Just a note about accuracy. On the Friday newscast you said that World War Two lasted what I thought was an impossibly short number of days. You drew a comparision to the War in Iraq reaching an identical milestone on Sunday. Maybe you could count again. World War Two began on (+/-) September 1, 1939 and ended six years later on (+/-) September 2, 1945.

Brian what we see in Iraq is real. The President says things are going well. Now for us who believe in truth Iraq needs a leader quick. VP Cheney was called to Saudis today for an up dated meeting on business affairs. Now that the Dems are in control I hope Cheney can pull this lie off and fool the Saudis or he's in trouble. All those backdoor meeting on controlling the American Treasury might fall apart. How much more will come out about the secret corruption acts this Administration as been doing for 5 years. Even Hastert is looking to leave or jump ship before his criminal acts come to light. All those years Americans prayed for help with the corruption and lies have been answered. I know the military families wont like that fact that they were duped/fooled by Bush/Cheney/Rummy. Let's hope Americans have learned the lesson of checking the candidates for President of the US before following lies like the ones Karl Rove pushed.
