The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Early Nightly is up

Earlynightly_40Brian anchors the broadcast tonight, but as he mentioned in yesterday's post, he spent the morning at Ed Bradley's memorial service.  So we tapped NBC's Tom Costello for the vlog again today. He previews his story on the rise in lost luggage and mentions a couple other stories we're working on for the broadcast.

I don't want to mistrust Muslims; I don't want to fear Islam; I don't want to cast unfair stereotypes---but the Historical facts are clear:

The early Muslims did not peacefully convince their neighbors to convert; they forcefully took lands that were previously under control of others, e.g.Byzantine, Persian, Egyptian, and [what would become] Spanish. They were stopped in what became France. The first recorded attack on Constantinople was around 680 AD---three hundred years before the Crusades! After the Crusades they attacked Vienna!

They used religion to unify their empire.
The rest of the world is lucky the Ottoman Empire fell into decay, else we would probably all be Muslim today.

These FACTS and others detailing the brutality of the forced conversions can be easily confirmed---get to a book store or library and check out any number of books on the subject.

Finally: Ask yourself what religion of peace condones forced conversions, makes it punishable by death to leave, and uses a perjorative term (infidel) to refer to unbelievers?

What is scarier? Seeing a group of Muslims praying before a flight or reading some of these posts? I choose the latter. I am thoroughly ashamed to live in a country where a person can be hated so intensely because of their religious beliefs. Land of the free my ass.

President Bush has been the reason behind thousands and thousands of innocent women and childrens deaths in the Middle East. I don't believe we should let him on a plane anymore.

I know I will get replies saying "you don't like living in this country then get out boy!" That is, I admit, a very educational and mature response. But if you want to throw that my way, back it up.

You tell everyone in American that the war on terror is everyone's fight and then when people react it is dishonorable....ppplllleeeaaaasseee. Good job to all!

I agree also. A duck is a duck. Bravo, I am flying tomorrow and feel better that the airlines are paying attention. The government want us to be vigilant but when we are. This is what I call vigilant.

Go back to 1972 to present, all of the major terrorist activity (with the exception of Oklahoma City) was committed by Muslim men 17 to 40 years of age. Should we be concern, yes we should. Muslim is not a religion of peace, have you seen the protest in the Middle East? That does not look peaceful to me.

I agree, it does smell rather unusual. Only three prayed, not all six. They prayed before a flight, "HELLO" That right there would put the fear of God in me. Then, they all sat in different seats, apart from one another. Usually friends, co-workers, people going to the same conference, sit with one another, another Red Flag. It would seem to me that the Airline was set-up for a fall. I am sure the Lawyer they hire won't be a Muslim.

I agree with Richard B in Tampa. These people don't care about others, not even other Muslims. I am totally against Bush and his administration but I do agree that the Muslims can't possibly think that Islam is a peaceful and loving religion. It isn't a religion at all, it's a hate group. If you don't agree with them then bang, bang you are dead. I would be ashamed to admit I was a Muslim, as a matter of fact I'd change religions! Good for US Airways, I wished other business would take a stand. If those Muslims don't like what happened, go back to where you came from!

Several posts ago, some Muslim stated that "Islam is a peaceful religion". Yeah? Prove it. I am still waiting for some highly-placed Muslim to condemn the 9/11 attacks. When the Pope merely quoted a reference to Islam being violent, the Muslims responded with VIOLENCE, to include murdering a nun. Peaceful religion, my foot! Was it Muslim peaceniks who murdered the Dutch journalist, Van Gogh? Must be those silly peace-lovers detonating all the IEDs and killing their own in Iraq, too. People, do some independent reading and you will realize that you cannot trust Muslims and that given the opportunity, they will kill you and your infant children. Remember Berg, Pearl, and all the other innocents these murderers have brutally and painfully decapitated in the name of Islam.

CAIR is nothing more than a propaganda arm, spewing lies to assuage Christians who might be uninformed, gullible, or stupid and who are too lazy to dig up facts about Islam.

And if anyone is counting, here's the score:

Deaths caused or done by Jesus: 0
Deaths caused or done by Mohammed: Thousands

I am totally for racial profiling if that's what we have to do to prevent another 9/11. I live in NYC and it wasn't Christians, Buddhists or Hindus who blew up the WTC. If I were on that flight I would have been much relived to see the moslems off the flight.

I agree with the airlines. Good job. You just never know. Too bad they had hurt feelings.

I am happy that U.S.Airways took a stand and showed the importance of our fears over insulting a few Muslims. Sorry guys but a duck is a duck. If the Muslims didn't like the fear and disrespect they were displaying then they can drive where they want to go. I am sick and tired of their feelings being placed above our legitimate fears.

references to "Allah" but also express pro-Saddam and anti-U.S. sentiments .

I see nothing wrong here, given that the anti US sentiments were made. Hello? There should be no argument. The right decision was made.
