Hawaii Earthquakes

We are following a developing story this afternoon from Hawaii.  There have been at least 2 major earthquakes... and several minor quakes reported in Hawaii.  There are reports of power outages on the Big Island.  Tourists gave their accounts of what they felt when the quake hit... and there have been evacuations.  MSNBC on cable MSNBC on the internet are providing continuing coverage of this story and we'll have the latest tonight on Nightly News.

Well Chuck and Nap we have no problems with Global warming just look at the ice melting and the once in a life time snow in New York that's just what ever our government says. The world is seeing reality even here in California were making changes to help stop something you feel isn't happening. Like the Titanic some will keep saying it's not sinking as they drown. Yes Hawaii has volcanoes and earthquakes but just look around the world at continuing things that are happening. California has always had earthquakes but we should all try to reduce the damage to the earth. So fellows keep riding the Titanic I'll get off the ship or in other words try to save the earth from future damage.

Chuck is right. We have a bunch of earthquakes every year because Hawai'i still has numerous active volcanoes, but most islanders never know it because the quakes are very minor. Sometimes the Big Island feels it, but it's sublte - like a 3.0 on the richter scale.

Jackie,

What exactly do you think Global Warming has to do with an earthquake? The islands of Hawaii were formed by volcanic activity, which is tightly connected with Tectonic activity (earthquakes). The tectonic plates basically float on an underground ocean of magma (lava). It is not suprising that they experienced an earthquake, nor is it in any way related to Global Warming.

Welcome back John
First upper NY snow and now the earthquake in Hawaii what's next. Al Gore was right about global warming but I guess our govenment still dosent' believe it.
What surprises are ahead this week it's always something. Nov 7th can't come fast enough.
