Battle Lines
Once again I'll be sitting-in tonight for John Seigenthaler. He'll be back next weekend.
On the heels of new polls showing the GOP is losing ground in the face of the Congressional e-mail scandal, Republicans on the Sunday talk-shows put up a strong defense of House Speaker Dennis Hastert. And while their message is "it's time to move on", our Chip Reid will report tonight that the scandal is becoming increasingly problematic for Republican candidates now in the final month of the campaign.
Also tonight we have a pair of reports out of Iraq that will offer two distinct, but troubling perspectives of life in Baghdad these days. The first is told through the eyes of an American Colonel and his troops as they patrol south Baghdad. NBC's Richard Engel takes us along as Colonel Jeff Peterson shares the obstacles, dangers and frustration his soldiers face everyday, from discovering the corpses of torture victims, to facing American guns that had been previously given to Iraqi security forces to fight the insurgency. And then Tom Aspell introduces us to an Iraqi family who has already lost one son to the violence and has their own horrors to share. They are now among a growing number of Iraqis who are giving-up, and are now looking to flee their homeland.
And from Europe tonight: could France actually be catching onto the no-smoking bandwagon?
And Ned Colt has brewed-up a wonderful piece tonight from Belgium on the search for the world's best beer.
There's NFL football on NBC tonight so some of you won't be seeing us. But for those who can, we'll be looking for you.

Awww, the GOP wants to "move on." Isn't that precious? They sure understand a lot better about "priorities" and "witch hunting" when they're the target of the hunt. I didn't hear one of the posers ask to "move on" from the 4 year, $50 million Ken Starr production.

I hope the netcast on Sunday is available soon....we have been asking for it for months, knowing your broadcast would be pre-empted by NFL Football. Please hurry! Thanks much.

Hastert made a decision to serve the GOP interest of power to pass the illegal bills rather then protect the kids. The White House and the GOP has just shown Americans and the world what is meant by religious family values and morals in American Democracy. Foley was the allowed to continue his criminal acts as long as he voted for what Bush wanted. The movie Iraq for sale explain the White House plan for big business to rob the US Treasury blind.
As for Iraq notice how now hundreds of Iraq police have been poisoned. Iraq has to work out their own problem the US is only their to feed money to businesses like Titan, CACI and Halliburton the White House is not interested in Democracy in Iraq. Our troops are being used as ponds in the corruption of the White House and GOP for greed only. The families that believed Bush's lies and still support him will be hurt the most. As the soldiers have given their lives not for protection of the US or for Iraq Freedom but for the financial gain of some GOP, White House and big business. Hastert made his profit big time and doesn't want to lose the gravy train his been riding. Foley is just a pervert who is smart enough to select children who are weak and pray on them like a evil snake. Look for other criminal acts to come to light it's been going on for 5 years without anyone looking or doing anything about it.

It would be nice if the Sunday news report were available as a netcast so that those of us in the west could view it after the football game is over.
