Terror Tape

We begin tonight with a story that has been unfolding throughout the day.  An American from California appeared today in a video from Al Qaeda second in command Ayman al-Zawahri.  The American on the tape is Adam Gadah who is wanted by the FBI. This tape is called an "Invitation to Islam" and it runs 48 minutes.  We'll find out more about the tape… another story today ... the arrest of 16 people in London in connection with a terror plot investigation.  NBC's Chief Investigative Correspondent will have the latest on the tape... NBC's Ned Colt the story of the arrests from London.

We are following developments in Iraq today.  As the Pentagon warns that Iraq could be headed for a civil war, there was more bloodshed.  NBC's Mike Boettcher has the story.

What's left of Ernesto is dumping rain in the east... and John is the culprit out west.  Tonight we have the latest on both storms.

Plus, why Americans aren't able to find the time to take time off for vacation these days.

Those are some of the stories we are following tonight.  We hope you'll join us.

Pentagon/RPG Defense -Republicans at their best. Just like rebuilding Iraq. First You pick your contractors-let them set goals-Hold competitive bidding and let your croonies/contractors pick the winners and set the price. How much did Rayteon feed the Republican Kitty? Who in the Army did Rayteon promise jobs to after they retired from the Service??? Well, something else for the DOD to hide and lie about after they've murdered several thousand more American GIs in the streets of Iraq to enrich the party faithful. Lincoln once said of Military Contractors, The only thing they wouldn't steal is a red hot stove

Once again the Al Qaeda video unit travels to "secret locations" to make tapes of Al Qaeda leaders and the CIA fails to follow them.
It seems odd that individual American citizens can be put under surveillance in a country of the size of the United States but we can't track the movements of a few Al Qaeda video vans and camera crews in the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanisrtan even after five years of monitoring them with satellites and Predator drones.

Martin Savidges' report from Mississippi's Gulf Coast was first-rate. Thanks!

Mississippi's affordable housing shortage, which is so bad workers in rebuilding or in the casinos must either have 4-hour commutes from places like Baton Rouge or pay $700 or more per month to rent an apartment, is yet another reason the Bush Administration needs to come up with a Marshall Plan for the storm zone. This is a serious problem because workers who can't find affordable housing won't want to live--and work--on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Mississippi, whose people are valiantly struggling to rebuild against immense odds, must also contend with several other problems which would benefit from massive aid. According to "Rising From Ruin", the court system in Hancock County--where Waveland and Bay St. Louis are--is in a shambles. And schools in that county are sorely in need of funding. (And, shamefully, part of Bush's $230 million for Lebanon is to go to her schools so they can open in time for the school year. Why can't this money go to schools in Mississippi and Louisiana instead?)

I was happy to see the report several weeks ago where, in a sign of slowly-returning normality, Mississippi's Gulf Coast casinos were coming back--but if Mississippi doesn't get help with the affordable housing that will attract and keep workers in these casinos, all bets are off regarding Mississippi's recovery.

"Terror...Terror...Terror"!

What a great way to open the show! It keeps the people on the edge of their seat.

Well, we have 16 people in London arrested for suspected terrorism. Next they will have a trial and defense attornies who will be able to see and question the evidence used against them.
Wonder if that will ever happen in America? Oh, thats right, we don't need trials we have the patriot act.
Those Brits must really hate America.

During a recent special on Bin Laden it was noted he was rebuked by some of his own followers after 9/11 for not offering his victims the chance to convert to Islam. Evidently it is a tenant of their belief that this be done before killing an enemy. Now here is al-Zawahri and a converted American again offering us the chance.Makes me a little uneasy..I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
