About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Early Nightly is up

OK, so it was a little longer than an hour. But you can now watch Brian's video by clicking the link to the right (below the advertisement).

We're hoping to get some dispatches from NBC correspondents in the Gulf region and will publish those as soon as we do.

Hi Jackie, your blogs as always substantive.

Speaking to the previous comment by Unnamed Blogger, he seems to be playing the blame game. The real blame needs to be assessed by a real investigation, and real oversight as to where the faults resides.

I concur somewhat with his assessment to first responders. What a fiasco! Navy helicopter pilots, being hero’s one day, then the next day being reprimanded for saving lives? I ask, who was responsible for saving lives, and dishing out penalties! While bodies lay in the streets of America for not just days but for weeks. local police and national guardsmen refused to remove the rotten corpses, because they did not have orders to remove them!

Still, a year later and the gulf is in a shambles, I ask where is the oversight now? I say, where is the real news! The news is so sanitized as to not disturb the public. I dare say that we as the American public can take the news. I thank Brian for attempting to address the difficult issues! But I have to go to independent journalist and online programming to see the picture in depth.

So! Mr. “Afraid of giving your Name”, the blame game is a sloppy process, and only deals with theory! I prefer the cold hard facts, out on the table. Lets start holding these people we elect responsible for doing their jobs. Lets see them break out in a sweat! Hey Brian, that will make NBC’s ratings sky rocket. Lets take a look at the chains of command, and make some effective changes. If we don’t then we should just forget about this American concept, and let big brother take care of us. Welcome to a brave new world!

You did not tell the complete story. Those people would not have been (wild eyed) as you put it if the mayor had had food and water for the people he directed to these places. Apparently he told them to bring their own but they probably would have been killed for it. The lack of response had nothing to do with race or class. Those people suffered because the first responders(the mayor and governor) failed them then and continue to fail them now.

Thank you Brian for your continued commitment to letting America see the truth about the Gulf Coast.
The US is the richest country in the world yet we see billions of taxpayers dollars wasted or robbed by government employees. Lebanon has already started cleaning and rebuilding and each family was given $10,000 as their homes are rebuilt at no cost to the victims. Something is wrong with that picture. Hezbollah didn't steal the money they gave it to the people. They beat us on alot even communications as Lebanon and Israel people are talking and blogging each other. So much money has gone to the victims of Katrina with all the fund raisers and donations yet the pictures look the same as if it were yesterday except for the Dome yes the Dome was rebuilt fast but the people are still waiting. Well at least Mr. Cheney was right on time as he viewed the new property that will be for the rich. Yes the property will be taken from the people and given to the rich for beachfront homes and boats. It will look like Florida but as planned at no cost to the rich. By waiting it out and not getting help from the government or the insurance companies it's a matter of time and Cheney's dream will appear. The people of the Gulf Coast know it but the rest of America is learning it. We'll see new photo ops and more promises and yes hanging out with black people to show face but the proof is in your face Bush doesn't like or care about Black people or poor people of any color. I don't trust him or any of his group to many lies in the past 5 years if I heard on truth out of his mouth is was a miracle or a mistake.
