Jenny--What an inspiring story--I wonder how many people would have such a positive outlook after something like that has happened if their child still had such challenges. That is quite a miracle--your son's being alive.

I saw that you are going to do a story at Parkland Hospital about the number of babies born to those unable to pay. I wish you had a moment to also check on the Trauma Department at Parkland. Everyone knows of Parkland Hospital because of JFK, but few people know about the supreme care that they provide to all people regardless of their ability to pay when dropped at their door due to Trauma. My son was in a critical car accident on March 27, 2005. For 14 days, he was cared for in the ICU. With multiple serious fractures, ruptured bladder, collapsed lungs and worst of all a traumatic brain injury. Although we were one of the lucky families who had 100 percent insurance coverage, I had opportunity to observe the medical and nursing staff care for others who were obviously indigent. The care provided was the same for all. What a marvelous healing place! Today, 17 months later, my son can no longer walk or talk, but what a miracle he is. And we are all thankful for the care provided him at Parkland Hospital.
