The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Early Nightly

Our camera caught up with Brian today in a dark Studio 3A at NBC News headquarters in New York. He gives you an early look at the two big stories we're watching -- Fidel Castro's health and the ongoing Mideast conflict -- as well as the rest of Tuesday's early lineup.

COMMENTS

I find myself intrigued by your Early Nightly and glimmers of how news stories actually make it to us at dinner time. How do stories make it from the wires to on air. Who decides which is important. How do stories get assigned? I just finished Andrea Mitchell's Talking Back and wonder what the various roles are. What does a news producer actually do? Obviously there are many producers. How do journalists obtain stories? What do all those mysterious titles mean.... Chief white house correspondent, bureau chief, analyst, etc.
