Air marshals win one
The thousands of federal air marshals who patrol the skies on selected flights won a concession today from the Department of Homeland Security -- one they say will help them remain undercover. The issue was how they dress and where they stay, to avoid calling attention to themselves.
The marshals have long complained that a strict dress code was making them stand out, especially on flights full of vacationers. From now on, they can jettison the standard blue blazer and wear what they want, provided their clothes still conceal the weapons they carry.
How they BOARD the planes will also be reviewed, to make them less obvious to waiting passengers.
And they'll be allowed to stay in the hotels of their choice, instead of all checking into the same place, which they claimed compromised their undercover status. One hotel they were required to stay in under the old rules actually had a sign out front that said, "Welcome Federal Air Marshals."

Yes, these wonderful A/M did such a fine job on that NWA flight out of Amsterdam the other day...now we have 12 more people, their families and friends who now have a reason to hate us. Thanks G.B.

This is ridiculous and doesn't win the air marshalls anything except for comfort. These guys are easy to spot, there are usually two on each aircraft sitting in first class and they board the plane at the same time the crew does. If they truly want to "blend in" then perhaps they should board when everyone else does. As a frequent flier out of Washington I find that these folks might as well wear uniforms.

Yes, it is still Bill Clinton's fault.

i wonder why we have no AM on flights from overseas,s and why not at least one on every flight domestic or otherwise..i guess the adminstration is asking for trouble again, we have more than enough people to cover the job and want to do so.

Still blaming Clinton! Norm Minetta has been GEORGE BUSH'S transportation Sec. for SIX YEARS.
Is George Bush responsible for anything that happens in this country? Does Bill Clinton secretly control the U.S. government?
No wonder we can't have any sort of meaningful dialog in this country. Sheesh.

I believe you can thank Clintons wonderful Transportation Sec for that. Mr Norm Mineta...Keep an eye on Debbie Schlussels site as she has been covering this for about a year. She has many contacts in the agencies such as ICE, Trans, FBI etc. Gets the inside goings on out in the sunlight.
