Why did Israel bomb the Beirut Airport?

Analysts say there are two possible reasons and they are not mutually exclusive. Israel wants to keep Iranian arms from getting in and Israeli captives from being flown out.

Beirut Airport has long been key to Iran's supply of all kinds of material to Hezbollah. Iran's Revolutionary Guard has supplied Hezbollah with more than $1 billion of supplies over the past 25 years, say U.S. intelligence officials, as much as $150 million a year during tense times. The majority of it is flown in on an Iranian 747 cargo jet that unloads at Beirut Airport, where Hezbollah agents  pick it up and drive it to the Bekkah valley south of the Lebanese capital. Anti-aircraft batteries, Katyusha rockets, armored vehicles, small arms, anti-tank missiles, etc. have all been sent. Beirut is the only airport in Lebanon capable of handling that 747. The initial deployment was in 1982 with planes bringing in supplies as needed. By the 1990s the flights had fallen to a  quarterly routine. With Hezbollah under fire in Israel, now would be a time to resupply.

The U.S. regularly monitored the flights using the defense attache's office at the U.S. embassy in Beirut. Defense attaches would literally dart in and out of the convoys in diplomatic vehicles, snapping pictures and taking notes about the latest deliveries.

But there may be another reason as well, say U.S. officials and analysts. Israel may not want the two soldiers captured earlier in the week flown out of the region to Tehran. Israeli officials have said they have information that that is Hezbollah's plan. In fact, one analyst notes, the Israelis also bombed a small airfield near the border, again suggesting a desire to keep the soldiers nearby and out of Iranian hands.

Islam does not harbor hate at all but the religion has been hijacked by fanatics who misinterptert the Quran. But where all the hate from some middleasterns and some muslims come from? The answer is combination of blind support of Israel and support of Arab leaders who have been in power for centuries and have not fair elections. The lack of democracy and economical development in the middleastern countries makes it very easy for Hamas and Hizbollah to to recurit suicide bombers.

You still all seem to miss the point...Israel can and will destroy hazbellah if they are given the time by the US. It looks like they will get that time. To put it simply this will be one more victory in the fight with these American hateing murders. They hate us you morons that is not going to change no matter what we do....while we could join their religen. Oh wait they kill each other for having different ideas of what their religen means. My God they know only one thing killing, while, guess what, we have a bigger stick and it is time. If there is such a thing as a moderate arab govnerment and a moderate part of the Middle East stand up now get your house in order. Israel wants pease and has offered. The US wants pease. Take it now or lose everything. The US is now at a point where they will finish this. Iran and Syria must know it makes no since for us to leave their doorstep and allow these nuts to stay in power. With out some major changes in the Middle East we have too. We want to fight you there not in New York. We are coming it is only a question of how and when. Will it be as a freind or will you force a fight you will not win. Europe, the UN, are all things that the oil dollars can purchase but the US is still strong enough to go it alone. So watch out. Make pease Iran, do not go after a wepon we can not trust you not to use on us or Israel. Change your government show the world you want to live with us. Iran was once a great nation when the Persain empire was part of the world....it could be again but not this way. Your leadership has said they want to wipe Israel off the map. Right now they are working with north Korea to get the bomb. If they do Israel will nuke your nation. Your stupid leadership has made it clear what they will do with the bomb. They have left Israel no choice. If they continue they will leave the US no choice also. We are at the tipping point this thing can go one of two ways........pease, demorcacy, freedom or war death and ratical Islm. I truly beleive the US will lose a city or two or three with millions killed in my life time but this nation and what it stands for will survive. Remember when we lose those cities and millions are killed we will strike back and the sands of the middle east will be a sheet of glass. Is that what your God wants......? Maybe...that is what you keep telling us, that is what you keep showing us....Your biggest fear should be after 9/11 we believe you.

Israel doesn't want you to know anything about facility 1391. Although in the pro Israel media they would like you to think that the 3 kidnapped Israeli prisoners are the root cuase of the recent crisis in the middle east today. Israel do not want you to know whats the root cuase for the kidnappings of it's troops.

Americans eed to be educated concerning the truth of the middle east crisis before judging .

Israel's Guantanamo
By JONATHAN COOK
FACILITY 1391, a concrete fortress in central Israel on a rise overlooking a kibbutz, is almost obscured by high walls and fir trees. Two watchtowers give armed guards extensive views of surrounding fields. From the outside it looks like many other police stations built by the British in the 1930s across the Mandate of Palestine. Today many serve as military bases, their location revealed by signposts showing only a number.
Facility 1391, close to the Green Line, the pre-1967 border between Israel and the West Bank, is different. It is not marked on maps, it has been erased from aerial photographs and recently its numbered signpost was removed. Censors have excised all mention of its location from the Israeli media, with the government saying that secrecy is essential to "prevent harm to the country's security". According to lawyers, foreign journalists divulging information risk being expelled from Israel. But, despite government attempts to impose a news blackout, information about more than a decade of horrific events at Facility 1391 are beginning to leak out. As a newspaper described it, Facility 1391 is "Israel's Guantanamo" (a reference to the Camp X-Ray prison for al-Qaida and Taliban captives run by the United States on occupied Cuban territory).
In October 2003 a panel of international legal experts, led by Richard Goldstone, a judge in South Africa's constitutional court who has also been chief prosecutor of the international tribunals for former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda, called Camp X-Ray "a black hole" into which inmates disappeared, to be stripped of basic rights under the Geneva Conventions. The report added that "states cannot hold detainees, for whom they are responsible, outside of the jurisdiction of all international courts".
Although Facility 1391 has received none of the publicity of the US prison, it more flagrantly violates international law. Unlike Camp X-Ray, its location is not publicly known; there aren't even long-distance photographs of its inmates of the kind taken at Guantanamo Bay. Unlike the US prison, Facility 1391 has never been independ ently inspected, not even by the International Red Cross. What happens there is a mystery.
Justice Goldstone was able to declare that inside Camp X-Ray there were "662 people without any access to due process" of law, but no one, apart from a few senior Israeli government and security officials, knows how many inmates there are in Facility 1391. Testimonies from former inmates suggest it is crowded with detainees, many of them Lebanese captured during Israel's 18-year occupation of south Lebanon.
Four months after the first revelations of its existence, the Israeli courts have yet to make the government reveal any substantial information about it. "Anyone entering the prison can be made to disappear, potentially for ever," says Leah Tsemel, an Israeli lawyer who specialises in advising Palestinians (see Israel: beyond hope) "It's no different from the jails run by tinpot South American dictators."
What little information is available suggests that interrogation methods using torture are routine. A high-profile detainee, Mustafa Dirani of the now defunct Lebanese Shia militia Amal, has alleged that he was raped by his interrogators. Israel recently admitted that he had been moved to Facility 1391 after he was kidnapped from Lebanon by Israeli agents in 1994.
The first chinks in the secrecy about the prison were prised open by Tsemel last year, after the Israeli army's reinvasion of West Bank cities in Operation Defensive Shield, April 2002. Until then it seems to have been used almost exclusively for captive foreign nationals, mainly Jordanians, Lebanese, Syrians, Egyptians and Iranians. It is not known how many of them have been held there. The Friends of Prisoners Committee in Nazareth claims 15 Arab foreign nationals have gone missing from Israel's prison system.
There are many instances of kidnappings, particularly from Lebanon, assumed to have been carried out by Israel. Four Iranian government officials who disappeared in Beirut in 1982 have never been accounted for. In recent prisoner exchange negotiations between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hizbollah, their families have requested information from Israel.
But after the mass arrests in April 2002, which stretched Israel's detention facilities to bursting, a number of Palestinians were also sent to Facility 1391. For a while the disappearance of these detainees was concealed in the general chaos after the army sweeps. By October 2002, however, Tsemel and an Israeli human rights group, Hamoked, were demanding information in the courts. They presented habeas corpus writs, effectively demanding that the missing Palestin ians be produced to prove they were alive.
Cornered, the Israeli authorities admitted that the missing men were being held in a secret facility but would give no more details. They referred all requests for information to Madi Harb, head of an anti-terror unit attached to Kishon prison near Haifa. Since the petitions, Israel admitted incarcerating a few Palestinians in Facility 1391, though many others have claimed to have passed through it, including the Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, now on trial. According to Israel, all have now been moved to normal prisons. But only one, Bashar Jadallah, 50, a businessman from Nablus, has been released. He was arrested with his cousin, Mohammed Jadallah, 23, at the Allenby bridge crossing between Jordan and Israel on 22 November 2002. Mohammed Jadallah has provided an affidavit saying he confessed to being a member of Hamas under torture.
Bashar Jadallah says he was not beaten or physically tortured, unlike most other prisoners, possibly because of his age. However, he describes months of severe isolation, held by captors he never saw, who terrorised him. His tiny cell, 2 metres square, was windowless and painted black, with a bulb providing a dim light 24 hours a day. He was refused access to a lawyer, not allowed to meet other inmates and told he was "on the moon" when he asked where he was. He was not allowed to see anything outside his cell. "They made me wear a pair of blacked-out goggles that covered the whole of my eyes before allowing me out," he said. "I had to wear them if they took me to another room, such as the interrogation room or the medical clinic. Only once inside could I take the goggles off."
Hamoked is to present an expert opinion from Dr Yehuakim Stein, a Jerusalem psychiatrist, on the effects of detention in such conditions. Dr Stein says that the treatment of Jadallah and the other Palestinians who provided affidavits is mental torture that creates what he calls "DDD syndrome": dread, dependency and debility. Lack of food, sleep, movement and mental stimulation, as well as exclusion from human contact--whether lawyers, family members, other prisoners or guards--is designed to lower resistance to questioning and force inmates to be entirely dependent on interrogators. Combined with the pain of torture, with threats of torture, with the fear of being killed and the sense of being forgotten, inmates are likely to be consumed by what Dr Stein calls psychologically damaging dread. Jadallah says: "Not knowing where I was or even seeing the faces of the jailers made me extremely frightened. The worst thing was feeling like I might disappear and my family would never find out what had happened to me."
His account of his isolation and living conditions corresponds with those of other detainees whose affidavits have been collected by Tsemel and Hamoked. They describe damp, foul-smelling mattresses, rarely-emptied buckets used as toilets and a single tap in the room under the control of invisible guards. Loud noises prevented inmates from sleeping and air-conditioning could be turned on to chill them.
The affidavits also include descriptions of torture, a practice banned by Israel's Supreme Court in 1999. Hannah Friedman, director of the Public Committee Against Torture, says her group has recorded a steady rise in such cases in Israeli jails during the intifada. A recent survey showed that 58% of Palestinian prisoners reported overt violence, including beatings, kicking, shaking, being forced into painful positions and having handcuffs intentionally tightened.
Such practices and worse are commonplace in Facility 1391. According to the affidavit of Mohammed Jadallah, he was repeatedly beaten, his shackles were tightened, he was tied in painful positions to a chair and not allowed to go to the toilet. He was prevented from sleeping, with water thrown on him if he nodded off. The interrogators showed him pictures of family members and threatened to harm them. "They brought me a picture of my father in prison clothes and played a cassette of him as a detainee. They threatened to imprison and to torture him."
But these prisoners probably fared better than Facility 1391's long-term inmates, the foreign nationals. The Palestinians who passed through the secret prison remained under the authority of the General Security Services (Shin Bet), responsible for interrogation in the usual Israeli detention centres. Foreign nationals in Facility 1391 are the responsibility of a special wing of Israeli military intelligence known as Unit 504. The treatment of these prisoners has been revealed by documents submitted to the courts in Dirani's law suit. He was seized from his home in Lebanon in May 1994 in an attempt by Israeli intelligence to get information on the whereabouts of an airman, Ron Arad, whose plane crashed over south Lebanon in 1986. Dirani held Arad for two years before allegedly selling him on to Iran.
Dirani, who was moved to Ashmoret prison near Netanya a year ago, spent eight years in Facility 1391, along with another famous inmate, Sheikh Abdel Karim Obeid of Hizbullah. In the first months of Dirani's capture, when hopes of extracting information about Arad were high, he was tortured by a senior army interrogator known only as "Major George". Although torture was at that time legal in Israel, Dirani is suing the state and "George" for two incidents of sexual abuse. In one, "George" allegedly ordered a soldier to rape Dirani; in the other, he is accused of inserting a wooden baton into Dirani's rectum.
Dirani's accusations have been corroborated by affadavits from soldiers who served in the prison. One interrogator says: "I know that it was customary to threaten to insert a stick if the subject did not talk." A petition signed by 60 officers in defence of "George" does not deny that such practices were employed, only that it is unfair to victimise him for using working methods standard in the prison. "George" has admitted that it was normal practice for detainees to be naked while being interrogated.
Jihad Shuman, a British national whom Israel accused of belonging to Hizbullah after he was arrested in Jerusalem in January 2001, was held in Facility 1391 for three nights. He recounts severe beatings by soldiers: "They removed my blindfold. I saw 15 armed soldiers, some with clubs, standing around me. Some of them beat me, pushed me and punched me from behind." Soon afterwards he was interrogated by a man in uniform who said: "You have to confess or you're done for, and no one will know what happened to you. Confession or death."
The effects on the emotional and psycho logical well-being of inmates are not hard to predict. A relative of Dirani's, Ghassan Dirani, who was captured with him and held in Facility 1391, later developed catatonic schizophrenia.
Although Israel has confirmed to the courts that Facility 1391 is a secret prison, it is unclear whether it is the only one in Israel. Among documents submitted to Hamoked by the Israeli army are those relating to Moussa Azzain, 35, a Hizbullah activist imprisoned in the notorious Khiam jail in south Lebanon in August 1992. According to Israeli officials, he was later transferred to a "Barak Facility" in Israel. Azzain reports that he was taken to a secret prison referred to by inmates as "Sarafend", a name often mentioned by Lebanese prisoners. This is the English name of an army base known as Tzrifin, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
Before the government-imposed information blackout, Facility 1391 was occasionally called by the name of the neighbouring kibbutz, which is neither Barak nor Sarafend, leading Hamoked to suspect that the facility where Azzain was held may not have been 1391. Hamoked's director, Dalia Kerstein, points out that Azzain was taken to Haifa in northern Israel when he was allowed to see a lawyer. Dirani and Obeid, both of whom are known to have been held in Facility 1391, were always taken to Tel Aviv. That may suggest that Azzain was held in another secret jail, possibly close to Haifa. Several detainees known to have been held in a secret prison say they could hear the sound of waves. Facility 1391 is some distance from the sea. Others say they could hear the sound of planes taking off or gunfire, possible from a military firing range. There are up to 70 Taggart buildings--heavily fortified police stations built during the British Mandate--so several could be used without raising suspicion.
Another Taggart building, in Gedera, south of Tel Aviv, is reported to have been a secret prison until the 1970s, when operations were supposedly relocated to Facility 1391. There may be other precedents. A former Red Cross official, who tracked prisoners during the first intifada between 1987-93, says the organisation learned in the early 1990s that Israel had been secretly holding Palestinians in a wing of a military detention centre near Nablus, known as Farah. He suspects that Israel may have several secret prisons, which it opens depending on its needs. During the height of the occupation of Lebanon, several could have been used. The glut of Palestinian prisoners last year may have forced Israel to open more secret jails.
Kerstein also fears that Israel may lease the services of such prisons to other countries, particularly the US following its invasion of Iraq. The Red Cross has confirmed that no Iraqis are being held in Camp X-Ray. In the current mayhem in Iraq it is almost impossible to know who has been arrested and where they are being held.
Diplomatic sources say there is strong evidence that the United States is using Jordan to interrogate prisoners, to circumvent international law out of sight of the Red Cross, which has access to Camp X-Ray. Egypt, Morocco and Paki stan may also be helping. "It would be quite astounding if Israel, the US's most loyal ally, which we now know has at least one secret prison, wasn't offering its services to the US," says Kerstein. "Israel has decades of expertise in torturing and interrogating Arab prisoners--exactly the skills the Americans now need since the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq."

"I can't recall a single policy of Israel against the Arab that Bush or any former US president disagreed. Maybe Malaysian PM was right after all."

Do you consider Eisenhower a "......former US president" or no?????? The little history i've read
states the US was poised to go to war against Isreal as well as against US allies Britian and France. Eisenhower, unlike Arabs, understood what 'soveriegn nation' ment.

To A. Phillips

Quran, the Holy book of Muslims is a wonderful book. Even its best English translation cannot do justice to its words (but I do suggest that you should read it). It contains guiding principles regarding all aspects of human life. It teaches us the value of human life. In Quran Allah says that if a person saves one life it is as if he has saved the entire mankind. Islam believes that all men were created equal and if someone can be considered superior to another it is only on the basis of good deeds that one performs. Its message is one of peace, not of hatred or extremism.

a phillips, Yeah the Koran does! But it involves mostly the destruction of the infadels.

I can't quite find the part about the unadulterated orgies with 72 virgins, "eliminating the jews from the face of the map", or american foriegn policy......but I'm quite sure an Imam can point it, or misintrepret it somewhere. At least if he gets notoriety, money or fame somehow.

Elvis

I wonder if the Koran has a book of Revalations or prophecy of any kind? I know what my bible says. Anyone have any comment

I would love for someone to explain to me why the muslim relgion harbors so much hate. Does the Koran teach this, if it does how could anyone want to accept that faith. Is it fun to feel hatred toward everyone that doesn't believe in your faith. I'm a christain and I want to witness to others, so that they can find the same happiness that I've found, but I'm not going to kill you if you don't accept it

To GV, USA
I appreciate your response to my post. But can you please explain that while UN recognizes Kashmir as a disputed territory how is it that one fine morning the Indian government declared it as an integral part of India and got the right to commit human rights excesses there. I wish a dialogue could resolve the dispute but rigid stance of India has been the biggest hurdle. If India was sincere in resolving the Kashmir problem it would hand over Kashmir to UN trusteeship ( Pakistan should do the same with their part) and fate of Kashmir should be decided by a fair plebiscite 10, 20 or may be after 25 years.
Only Kashmiris have a right to decide their future i.e whether they want to make Kashmir a part of Pakistan, India or they would like to keep it as an independent state.
As for the accusation of Pakistan's involvement in in Kashmir, most of it is Indian government's propaganda to distract focus from the real issue. I do not deny that nobody from Pakistani side is fighting in Kashmir, but they are not that many and some of these groups are also involved in terrorism within Pakistan. They are not controlled by Pakistan government nor does Pakistan government have any influence over them. Besides Musharaf government has done a lot to curb such groups and their infiltration. Also, Pakistan's repeated offers of placing observers along the entire line of control have been rejected by India.
I hope you don't wish the world to believe that approx 800,000 soldiers and paramilitary personnel (almost the size of entire Pakistan army) are in Kashmir to protect the Kashmiris from Pakistani militants. Kashmir is a big Nazi-style concentration camp and the atrocities of the Indian goverment have been documented over the years by Human Rights Watch and other international organizations. The Indian army is murdering people, they are using rape as a weapon, burning and demolishing houses and putting people in jail for indefinite periods without trial. Another crime they commit is that when someone important from US is about to visit India they enact dramas in which they murder Hindu pilgrims or other unarmed Hindus and then cry crocodile tears in front of the Americans. (The timing of such incidents is a proof in itself)
Sorry MSNBC, this has no direct relevence to the current discussion but please display it to put the record straight.

To Anjela in Ojai, CA. I must correct you, as you have quite some wrong 'facts.' I have Palestinian Christian relatives living in Nazareth since 1948 with Israeli passports. They do NOT have equal rights like Israeli Jews. The latters have BY FAR easier access to medical schools, ranks in the army and lots of other issues. Officers in the Haghana/IDF of non-Jewish religion are not allowed beyond a certain level. If allowed, not in any specialty(they are barred from the air force and other sensitive weaponry.) Just For Your Info.

To anonymous:

In response to your comments made on Sent Jul 21, 2006 6:06:36 AM),

I agree with you on your comment about USA alliance with groups/organization if it favors them and declare the same group/organization as unworthy if defied.

But, I beg to differ on the plebisite issue in Kashmir. According to the documented history, a plebisite must be conducted by India in the whole of Kashmir and not conduct plebisite when half is controlled by India and the other half by Pakistan. In addition, I might wonder how anyone could conduct a fair plebisite when violense is instrigated from the POK/Azad Kashmir side into the Indian controlled Kashmir. You cannot set one foot in boat and the other in a differnet boat and travel across the ocean.

My 2 cents:

-- Most of these land divisions were first started when British rule was mandated in the last century. With India-Pakistan, the British were directly responsible in dividing the country in the name of religion. History cannot be changed. With that being said, putting past aside I think people in Pakistan and India have to realise the truth and live amicably. Afterall they all belonged to one land at some time in past.

When America rewards one country for balatant violations of human rights, Geneva convention and established norms of decency, how can it expect other countries to obey UN resolutions that are in its own interests??????

When USA supports militant groups in Central America and Afghanistan ( during Russian Occupation ), they are supporting freedom struggles, democratic movement etc. When some groups fight them or their allies they are terrorists. I think time has come for the world to tell USA to shut up. North Korea and Iran have as much right to nuclear and missile technology as Israel. If US wants Lebanon to implement resolutions regarding Hizb, they must first force Israel to implement resolutions regarding vaccating occupied lands. Similarly, India should be asked to implement resolution regarding holding plebiscite in Kashmir. Please wake up, nations don't forget injustices meted out to them. Its a dream that Palestinians and Arabs would wake up one morning and have amnesia about more than half a century of torture, apartheid and broken promises of a free Palestine. Please address the root causes of terrorism. Root cause of terrorism is not Hizb, it is injustices in Israel and elsewhere.

There seems to be a great deal of misinformation in some of these rantings. It might help if some of you would review the history of Israel.
From the Declaration of Israel's Independence: It (the state of Israel) will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education, and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions.
As a non-Jew who has visited with Christians, Jews, and Muslims in Israel, I feel that this democracy has a real chance only when the theocrats are willing to put their self interests ( money and power) aside and work for the common good of all of the people. Surely, we humans are stupid, but we must understand that our brilliant Creator finds NOTHING HOLY in war!

Steve, Denver CO:
If you're referring to who wrote about "THE BIG PICTURE and the children & the innocent" (written by the Korean American - a 29 y/o female Korean/American w/ 5 other nationalities under my belt) -

Your comment about being tired of hearing about the innocent and how children grew up hating us and about killing the Terrorists @ the age of 5 vs 25? Did it ever occur to you that the innocent children don't know any better? Babies aren't born w/ a gene to murder. They are raised that way. When they don't know any better - they are innocent - they can not rationalize. Their minds are still developing and there is still hope for them. Do you not know of any children, met any, have any? Just curious. I'm not dissing your comment but just responding - you are frustrated and angry and that negativity is skewing your views. You were a child once.

And i'd like to add that I'm a NY'er. I was pounding the pavement on 9/11 going from Hospital to Hospital to help locate my friends uncle. We are reminded almost daily of the constant threat of subway attacks and tunnel bombs.

But though our city will never forget the that day, we're a little above and a bit more sophisticated than to be spiteful and harbor such hate. And we certainly don't categorize a whole country as having one view. We're smarter than that. It's a New York thing - we ARE the melting pot and we all pretty much stand together.

And Johnee, FL -
You're right about Steve being ignorant but I'm hoping he was in a bad mood, frustrated and not thinking clearly when he posted.

And PEOPLE - go to your children, younger siblings, nieces and nephews....teach them NOT TO HATE. start here and go forward from here. I don't want to believe that it's too late.

To anonymous/German:"If you don't believe in the Bible, then you are not a Christian". I thank you very much for this statement. I believe(along with 2.5 billion Christians) in the Bible. Does that mean we can go and live in Palestine/Israel?!!!!!!
I guess our Israeli/Jewish friends don't like it.
You see, the problem is that even if you believe in the Bible, they will not allow you to live there!! This is DOUBLE standard, hence, discrimination by the Jewish people against any/all those who believe in the Bible but are not Jews.
As to the organized religion/violence in Sudan and Afghanistan; falks always remember:1 crime does not justify another. Do not tie the 2(or billions of crimes committed all across the world) together. Israeli crimes against Palestinian(CHRISTIAN and Muslims) and against Lebanese(CHRISTIAN and Muslims) are NOT justified. This is Jewish terrorism, fundamentalism, extremism, militantism, "guerrillalism".

Jane-I love your analogy. You mention that they are coming back to "their homeland" that they were driven out of centuries ago. Again, again and again:How do you know it's their homeland? If you want to invoke book XYZ of religion XYZ, do not forget book ABC of religion ABC, book DEF or religion DEF...ETC.(The list is endless.)
As to what you said "it's their business to conduct the war," I must respectfully disagree. You can search for the Geneva conventions which explicitly saves civilians from any war and barrs collective punishment-something Israel(since its inception) never had any respect for. BOTH sides are terrorists, fundamentalists, extremists, militants. Do not deny that fact. The Haghana was born in 1948 as Jewish terrorist organization-like it or not, that's a fact.
As to what you are saying about 1559, do not forget UN resolution 194 (1365 resolutions before 1559) explicitly asked for the return of Palestinians to their homeland. Do not forget UN resolution 242( 1317 resolutions before 1559) specifically asked for Israel's withdrawal of what it occupied in 1967. What about the Golan Heights? The West Bank? Gaza? The return of the Palestinians? Stopping demolition of Palestinian homes and destroying their property? You either say ALL facts about ALL terrorism(Jewish and otherwise), or don't settle for some.
If I may ask, why are u concerned about if 1559 is implemented or not? Did u lose any sleep about it last night?

Where is every one? Let's start the fun again!!

Is msnbc deleting all post that doesn't align with their thought process? Somebody on vacation? Or has Hamas taken over the free speech department as well?

Elvis

Fred, do you know why the Jews who came to their homeland were coming from Europe and other countries, too? They were driven from their homes in the Holy Land centuries and centuries before the Holocaust of Germany. I'm sure you will dispute this, but the truth is the truth. As to the democracy of the posting of the comments to the article, even though two of your posts were not allowed, I'm sure you will eventually have contributed at least two hundred.
I am no military mastermind, but I believe the Israelis are trying to contain Hezbollah to better get rid of them. I think that is why they are bombing airports, roads, port cities, etc. It is their business how they conduct the war they are in, since UN resolution 1559 wasn't enforced by the UN force that was in Lebanon for years.

As far as condemning the U.S. for using its veto power. I'm quite sure we will, as soon as Russia and China start condemning terrorists regimes who starve and kill their own people for their own wealth as well.
Turnabouts fair play no? Because If we don't hold steadfast I'm quite sure everyone in the entire region will be shi'ites, weather you want to be or not.

Don't think so, look at egypt, Jordon and Saudi Arabia, they seem to be a little antsy as well based on these guys track record.
With or without a single jew living in the region you'd still have bloodshed, don't think so? Look at the Shi'ite,Sunni conflict in Iraq!

Its about more than hating jews or foreign policy its about tribal regional power and wealth, always has been its just the jews and the U.S. happen to be the current scapegoats.

Elvis

Fred from LA, If Sharon isn't an Israeli Jew, then your not a palestinian christian, your an american christian, unless your here on a temporary visa!

Also this makes you an occupier of native american land.

I'm german but don't claim to be a german american. I'm an american, and if you don't believe the bible your not a christain either.
I myself shy away from organized religion, but believe in the word of god and those who were inspired to do so as well.
As far as the jewish tribe goes, you might want to check back to where the tribe of judah were first called jews by whom, and when.
Same goes for the DNA testing for the common descent, yeah the chromosomes might show common ancestry, but the skin color and body features sure do make it easier to blatantly perform an act of racism towards the jews, indians, and africans huh?

Just think, the Israelis, indians or Africans could then just easily blend in with the crowd and run to the media as well when innocents are killed when used as sheilds by the cowards who do this.
As far as someone saying why don't they just move to Montana, or buy a piece of desert in Africa. Better yet, why don't they just take it from the African tribes like the radicals did in Sudan and Somalia, and Afghanistan?

Amazing how the subject at hand suddenly gets painted into a biblical argument, when the wrongs are pointed out to the sympathizers of terrorism, whom are defending Islamic radicals who want to impose their will on others via religion. Then make it look like an occupation/foreign policy issue.

Past discrepencies tend to be their only arguments for validity. So lets look at the here and now!
Whats it going to take to end this? Easy enough, Hezbollah give back the soldiers and stop lobbing missiles.
Who cares about their past beefs? The palestinians got concessions and instead chose hatred via elections and peace once more showing their true colors as well as true colors of individuals of the region.
You don't hear the Prime minister of Israel talking about wiping out "all Arabs" or "non-jews" off the face of the map like the terrorists organizations Hamas, Hezbollah, or the palestinians or their sister countries do you?

Do you see the Israelis burning Palestinian, Lebonese, Syrian, Iranian, Egyptian, Jordanian or Saudi flags? Do you see them firing AK's everytime an arab is killed or burning ephagies of Arab countries?

Fellow Arabs are the ones who let the palestinians down or should of at the very least been there to pick up the pieces. What was the first thing Egypt did? Posted troups at the border and watched their brethren die of starvation and dehydration rather than take them in......nice one.
Where was the Arab coalition if Lebanons military wasn't able to Secure the Golan Heights?
I guess its Israeli and american aggression as well that just can't seem to keep these whackjobs from hacking off the limbs of indigenous tribes and creating millions of Africans to starve and homeless refugees in Africa.

Sudan, you don't hear or see the Arab coalition condemning this do you? Or how about Somalia? I hear they arrested 40 people today for watching videos, so now they are the judger of all nations and people?
Nigeria heading that way!
Yeah I'll bet all those innocent Indians on a train were against all Arabs and or muslim and deserved to die as well huh?
I especially love the part about women having to veil themselves, whipping of the ankles, and public mutilations and or destruction of anything that isn't islamic.
These guys are no better than the KKK, gangs, or serial killers themselves. They recruit the lost misguided uneducated morons that society has rejected and brainwash them, then tell these guys who've probably never ever been laid, 72 virgins await them. So let me get this straight, they can advocate unadultered sex orgies in the afterlife, but women can't expose their ankles in the real world to justify killing innocent people?
Then whenever someone on the home team whose brain gets ventilation before they can detonate a bomb killing innocent civilians, they run to the media like the sniveling losers of the big game.
So let me ask you people this. What happens if one of these whackjobs doesn't detonate himself, does he get 40, 20, 5 or just a single token virgin for failing?
Then today we hear a whackjob hamas leader (hiding in Iran, like all of these cowardly advocates of killing do).
Exclaiming bring on world war 3! Hmmmm, don't recall Israel saying that.
I'd personally like to see these guys who brainwash and advocate killing innocent people to start strapping on bombvests themselves. I mean, why do they chose to live in such misery, heck be a martyr and get your virgins and be done with it.

Because this, just like the whole occupation cries have nothing to do with the occupation. Without misery and causing their own people to suffer like the billionaire Arafat, the people advocating these despicable acts would have to get a real job.

What is going on here? US can never deny Israel anything. They approved & agreed upon every actions, statements & comments by Israel. No matter how stupid it is, US still support Israel. I don't know who's in-charge here. I can't recall a single policy of Israel against the Arab that Bush or any former US president disagreed. Maybe Malaysian PM was right after all.

THE JEWS RATHER ISRAEL CONTROL THE WORLD BY PROXY. EVEN UN CAN'T DO ANYTHING. US WILL VETO ANY POLICY AGAINST THEM.

Now who's forging history?

And if you were the sort of Christian who believes in the words of Jesus, you would further peace and understanding. If you were telling the truth about the military theater taking place throughout the world, you would acknowledge Iran and Syria's role in these disputes, you would acknowledge the history of Hebrews, Israelites, Jews, and even the modern-day Sabras. If you wanted to treat other people the way you would want to be treated, you would acknowledge the fact that peace between Israel and Palestine is vital for every reason, for every life, for everyone. You would not foment more hatred. If you believed in any of the holy books, you should already know enough to respect all of them for what you should, and to recognize that evolving people learn as they live and correct themselves, and so learn therefore to reject what they should.
