The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Wednesday wrap

Just a note to direct readers to the Nightly News home page, where we've gathered the best of the broadcast's reporting from the Mideast:  www.Nightly.MSNBC.com.

One line from Brian's story about the Israeli gunners -- and the Detroit-born officer he encountered today -- I thought deserved repeating in this space: "This young officer who grew up rooting for the Lions and Tigers [is] now shooting at guerillas he cannot see."

We'll be back with more posts from the region in conflict on Thursday.

Rob, Baby, Sweetheart -

If you've read my posts, you know I call them like I see them, and I have to say - understanding that while Israel did not start this, they are not actually punishing the people who did, either, and that's my point - NBC (the America media et al) appear to be squarely on the side of Isreal. We get long, long coverage over the rockets coming from Lebanon that hit the occasional occupied building or even empty field, but the fact that Isreal is systematically destroying hospitals, power plants, fuel storage, etc., ensuring that Lebanon will be as chaotic as we made Iraq seems to get a very short shrift. In fact, it looks exactly like what we did in Iraq, with exactly the same "liberal media's" tacit support, probably with the same result: chaos, misery, and fear for the innocents, general loathing for the west, and the best little terrorist training camp for 500 miles. Possible exactly what everyone wants.

Brian 5 years ago it was so different as the US was leading the way for world peace. Now Bush is bring chaos to all the countries and feeding the Israel/Palestine/Lebanon conflict. Mr. Bush was right when he said he was a war President with war on his mine. The US has made enemies of all the countries and lied to the UN. Boltan is in need of medication and is clueless in his appointed job. But that's what we get as Bush appointed a non qualified person again. Connie Rice can't be trusted and the world leaders can't respect her because she doesn't respect them. Connie Rice has a bad habit of looking down at people and talking down to them. Bush wants the US to invade Iran and Syria for their oil. While all this is going on Iraq is at war and our troops are in the middle of it. Bush invaded Iraq/Afghan and made them become Democratic as that's not their culture now they will fight to be who they want to be as the US lets our troops die for nothing.

Rob... this entire blog/vlog process is fascinating and is a very unique way to bring viewers like me much closer to the newsgathering process.

I worked in a local TV newsroom for 17 years, and it's amazing to get a glimpse inside a massive network news operation.

Keep up the good work... and I hope all the NBC team in the Middle East will stay safe.
