The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Reason to Hope?

As we begin putting together our broadcast tonight, word from NBC's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell... traveling with the Secretary of State in Israel... that there may be a plan to try to end the violence in the middle east.  It is just the beginning... but Andrea will report some of the new details that are emerging.  We'll have that story.

Plus, Mark Potter is reporting from the Israeli town of Metula tonight, on the border with Lebanon, where there was more violence today.  NBC's Jim Maceda has the view from Syria.  And NBC's Kerry Sanders reports on the humanitarian effort in Lebanon.
We'll take a look at the heat wave that continues through much of the U.S. and abroad.
And NBC's Dawn Fratangelo tells us about the Orient Queen, the ship that helped rescue so many from Lebanon.
This is another busy news day and we'll have complete coverage of the latest tonight.
We'll see you then.

I feel terrible and am horrified by the children dying in Lebanon and Iraq. However, why is NBC not reporting on the fact that the "cilivians" killed are only women, children and old men? Where are the young husbands, sons? Should this not be pointed out to the viewers? This is exactly what happened and is happening in Iraq. The Why of the reason for this current unrest has been forgotten by everyone. Political correctness in this country has gone too far and appeasement has become the buzz word allowing the "bad guys" to get away with their murdering ways. It is indeed a shame that people have forgotten that there was a Hitler and there can be many more Hitlers in this world!!

The stories about the Orient Queen and the evacuations of Americans from Lebanon are important to hear and often bring tears to my eyes. They are reported well and show a human aspect of this war. I just ask you to remember that there are Americans in Israel who, despite this war, have decided to show their support for Israel by staying in the country and living their lives. Teens who are there on summer tours may call their parents more often but are still having fun and enjoying their summer. It is important to show the support that Israel is getting by having so many Americans stay. Thank you for your coverage and please keep up the good work. See you tonight, if not before.

Hold on now... It's not time.

I didn't think we were close enough to November to see the flowers grow from the seeds of political P.A.C. money yet. Besides, you cannot outright lie until September. I think that is a presidential rule.(Not for him of course)

It seems so much of our world's stife stems from radical Islamics. Not all the problems, but still a lot of them. It would be wonderful if reasonable diplomacy could win, but I really do not put a lot of faith in that. It doesn't seem that "reason" matters much, only "might" and "hatred."

Ever since my family migrated to this country I have always watched NBC, but now I would like to see more news about the Congo(DR)...ever since the conflict begun over 4 million people have died...and what is NBC doing? reporting on on the regular conlicts in the middle east, while I do appreciate that as a viewer of this network, please keep us informed the the elections in the congo and what it could mean to the continent of Africa. Thanks and I will be watching tonight.
