The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Producer Subrata De, who Brian thinks is angling for a job with National Geographic, sent in these three shots today during the team's tour of an Israeli artillery location along the Lebanese border. Brian will have a full report on the broadcast.

Loved the pictures, Brian. Gives us a sort of inside look at the news as you gather it. About the fighting there -- look folks it's WAR and in WAR, you shoot anything that moves on the other side. That's why in these "modern" times, we are not supposed to fire at women, children, hogs and cows, religious buildings and national monuments so the other side hides in these places and store their bombs there. Come on....war is war. Shoot and then go home.

Hi, Nice Job!

But I would like remind or mention about some questions.

You do know that sometimes some question can be propagandistic like when you ask the soldier whether their weapons could hit innocent civilians. Could they say no? A wrong answer could end themselves in military tribune, I guess. Of course they will say they would try to avoid that. When they say that, is that not becoming a reflection of mercy for the world to feel that they are justified in their attacks?

What if the other side says the same thing if you ask them? That shows that they know politics too. If they say they would not care much if it kills innocents, does that show that they are more terroristic, or just less schooled?

What does everyone think?

Brian,
I am wondering if Subrata De provided the superb photos during your recent trip to Africa with Bono? THOSE were also really National Geographic caliber...amazing, heartfelt, beautiful (the children)...and wonderful as desktop photos...always reminding us of how grateful and humble we should be. Take care, safe return home. Prayers for you, your family and crew.

go and ask Israelians they belive on GOD how God will forgive them with this wicked war
How many Palstinians are in their Jail
what does it mean if only n only 2 soldiers kept by Hezbollah thousands of Israelians are in the Jail of Damn Israelians ....who is responsible for it

IF israel is truly good and on the side of right, it should not compromise its standards. The question that Mr. Williams posted is a reasonable one. I hope that most americans feel that during a war, american soldiers hold themselves to higher standards than their enemies in terms of conduct and human rights.

Brian, you and your team are doing great work. Please try to give more reports on the Lebanese side; after all, there are 10 times more people being killed over there, most of them innocents.

hey! brien, why didn't you ask one of the hizbulla terrorist if they relized that thier rockets( fired at random' like carpet bombing) could kill 3yr. old and 9yr. olds. you know like you asked the IDF soldier about the possibility of his shells possibly killing a 6yr. old. the hizbulla kill jews and other arabs, men ,women or children makes no differance. the Israelies do thier best to avoid that. why don't you try to make that a point, G-D bless Israel and pres. bush for backing them up. finish it Israel, don't give an inch.

Mr. Williams,

Your show's report on the new stem cell research bill was terribly misleading. It mistakenly characterized the debate over the bill as a simiple for or against destroying life to save life, as Tony Snow had put it.

Your report said that it was a contention of supporters of the research would only use embryos to be destoryed. That was not an argument by the bill's supporters - it was the actual content of the bill! You can be pro-life and against most stem cell research and still support the bill! The Bush administration made a further argument that this bill was a slippery slope to more stem cell research that didn't just involve embryos destined to be destroyed (which was left out of the report entirely). I think a clarification to your original report is necessary to inform your viewers.
