About this blog
The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.
Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

TRACKBACKS
Dear Brian Williams,
Day after day we see the number of dead American troops climb and that is unconscionable. But we never hear how many of our troops have been wounded or damaged for life.
Our embarassment of a president doesn't even want flag draped coffins shown to the public, but how could he deny the families destroyed, the children who have lost their parents. Death is not the only thing that ruins lives. Those damaged troops need to be counted and acknowledged.
We also do not hear of the number of Innocent Iraqis who have been killed in the cross fire. Someone must total theses figures and bring more light on the current conflict
Civil wars go on for decades all over the world , but ,without oil involved, we do nothing to stop them.
I hope that you and others in the public eye will try to make up for the neglected statistics.
Sincerely, Janine Schoncite

Brian, I am and have been watching you since the 1980's, I have to say I cannot wait till 5:30 pacific time every night, after hearing the beating you took from (vewier mail) I was devistated, these people do not know what they are talking about, you are doing your job and "very well, I might add", you all ways look fantastic, not great, fantastic, you are beyond great. Please do not change any thing with the way you do your news, it is your job and done well beyond the other networks. When you were out here in Vegas at the Four Seasons I wanted to see you, because I admired your work, but I could not afford your tickets, as I was out of work on a medical leave, hopefully, when you do come back, I would love to see you in person and hear what you have to say about your life's work, your are great at it. Thank you, From a former NJ resident

How about "Today's Narrative Nightly". Kinda ties in the fact that it is after the "Today Show" and is a preview of what is to come on the "Nightly News".

Overkill? Not for this news junkie. Keep up the good work!

How About "The Morning Brew" for the Early Nightly?
(The place to go for the first fresh report of what's going on before the day's momentum hits).

This is a wonderful Idea! How about The Nightly News Early Schedule, Unrevised? This allows for the plan, and as news breaks and changes need to be made, we can see and understand some of those later changes, during the day. Go NBC! Go MSNBC! Go Brian Willams and the News Team! But by all means, STAY! and STAY WELL!

I have to agree with some of the above posts. This seems like overkill. I much prefer Brian blogging to this format. Furthermore, I'd prefer a blog from Brian if he is traveling than a substitute delivering a promo in this format. Anyway, here are some suggestions:
- The "E with B" (E could be for Early or Editorial (View) with Brian) "Early Bird?"
- Perhaps something using the word "chat" like "Chat Cam" or "Editorial Chat" or "Chat View" or "Quick Chat"
- "The Rundown" is probably over done, but maybe "Page One" would work.

I think this is a great inside look into the working of the day and what is about to come with the broadcast... or for me the webcast, which I watch.
I have just one request for NBC News. Please make the 'Webcast' and the 'Early Nightly' available via iTunes. And not just the audio. I would love to have the video of both of these items via podcast. For me, that would make all the additions come full circle.
Thanks.

I think "PREVIEW" would be an appropriate name for this behind-the-scenes film. It is interesting to see Brian's office. Perhaps other locations in the news department can be shown.

What a shame to take up more of Brian's already taxed time filming "Early Nightly." Seems a case of following in the footsteps of a perhaps weaker station's format, rather than letting Brian do what Brian does best with his relentless editorial and delivery of non-opinion infused, highest professional standards journalism and broadcasting. Seems to me "The Daily Nightly" is a wonderful "behind the scenes" almost interaction between Brian, correspondents, crew, etc....why add this too?

Of course, it should be called the "Promo-Cam". However, I think you should give Brian a break and take it out of his office. Brian is the thinking persons' newsman and needs some quiet time before air to write and get ready to deliver the most literate newsbroadcast on TV today (yes, I've seen Jim Lehrer).

How about the "Pitstop" cam? Since Mr. Williams is a huge NASCAR fan.

I think it's important to remind people that Hezbollah hides its fighters and its weapons smack in the middle of the crowded villages whom they serve with public services. Of course they know that they put their own civilian population at risk this way! When Nasrilah had his last important meeting of Hezbollah leadership, it was at his home not his headquarters and he was surrounded by his family--all the while knowing he was a marked man who had already survived three assassination attempts on his life.

Go Israel! Had they never given back the land they seized in 1967 maybe none of this would be an issue. God gave it to them in the first place! One can only put up with so many concessions and still be continually antagonized by surrounding countries whose sole goal in life is to kill and destroy every Jew and Christian on the face of this earth. Go Israel!
