'Early Nightly' -- D.C. edition
When most people think of working in news, they probably think of the glamorous globetrotting anchorman. Brian himself would tell you that this week's globetrotting was long on hours and uncertainty, and very short on glamour. He mentioned earlier this week that one day's meals consisted of MREs and Power Bars thanks to the smart people he travels with.
Brian started the week heading from New York to Tel Aviv, then to Haifa, back again to Tel Aviv, with some interesting chopper rides and scary drives along the way. Then back to New York for Thursday night's show, presumably a brief respite in his own bed for one night, and then, good morning!, back on a plane today to Los Angeles where he will easily find more Power Bars but nary an MRE in sight.
So to help out while our intrepid anchorman globetrots, our own Chief White House correspondent David Gregory steps up with today's edition of "Early Nightly" -- a rundown of what you can expect in tonight's broadcast from Los Angeles. Click here to watch the video.

Gena Fitzgerald's Early/Nightly - DC Edition touched my heart. It was my understanding that Brian Williams chose this profession, and accepted the fact that anchors would also be in the field.
My comment to Gena and Brian is, to offer it up and move on! Others do this type of travel as a matter of course and do not look for kudos or even expect any.
If you want the big name, you must play in the big game.
Let's move on!

Like the comment maker earlier today, I am curious...will Early Nightly (if that person made a mistake confusing Early Nightly with Daily Nightly)become part of the weekend segments?

I know this isn't exactly related but does anyone remember this infamous prediction by Nostradamus?
“In the year - 1999 and seven months,
The Great King of Terror
shall come from The Sky.
He will bring to life
the King of the Mongols.
Before and after, Mars rules happily
(Nostradamus: C10 Q72)”
If we cross out the date, this prediction could easily apply to 9/11. Just look at the facts. Bin Ladin (the king of terror) came from the sky and awakened an administration that is acting, in essence, like a 21st century Gangues Khan: eager to use America’s vast military to conquer territories once held in the Mongolian Empire. Gangues Khan was the leader of the most powerful and feared army on Earth – So is George W. Bush! The Mongolian Empire also spanned from Baghdad to Korea and included Afghanistan and Iran: all areas branded as the Axis-of-Evil that George Bush has been threatining and stationing troops in. He has even visited Mongolia on a recent trip. Beijing and Moscow were also a part of the Mongol empire too, but George W. Bush hasn’t included them on that list….yet! Our relations with these latter countries have rapidly deteriorated under the current administration.
If Nostradamus did foresee 9/11 and dated his prediction as such, it would likely not have happened that day because of how famous his predictions have become. Basically, everyone would have known from having watched one of a half dozen TLC-like documentaries about that very prediction. Thus, by dating his prediction two years early, he may have deliberately set into place a warning. 9/11 itself may not have been avoidable, but a vengeful leader’s over reaction and excuse to use it for virtual world domination may be.
I’m not sure what to make of the reference to Mars. To a person in Nostradamus’s time, Mars was the God-of-War. Today, Mars is a place that most people really want to explore and inhabit! It may be just an odd coincidence, but there is an unprecedented number of five (5) NASA/ESA landers and spacecraft on or around Mars right now! It certainly seems to me that the time of ‘Mars’ (our understanding of it and our growing interest in sending people to it) has arrived!
Note: although this prediction did not come true in 7/99, 9/11 was 799 full days after July 4th, 1999…

Interesting piece by David Gregory, though it lacked a "snippit" into what has called Brian to L.A.....and due perhaps to today's banner stories, there is no clue as well...so, as always, your show will be on tonight! Safe travels to a man who must be very wary at this moment.
Also...is Daily Nightly going to be part of the weekend edition of Nightly News? Hope so. Thanks.
