Did you know?

In all of the coverage of the Mideast conflict and the city of Tyre over the past few weeks, you may have noticed the odd-shaped peninsula that shows up in the satellite photos that we use. Jutting sharply into the Mediterranean Sea, the spit of land is one of the most notable features of the coastline. What's interesting to note is that it was man-made. In 333 B.C., Alexander the Great marched his army of Macedonians south and laid siege to the city of Tyre. The once crown jewel of the Phoenician Empire had faded a bit over the years, but it was still a major pawn in the conflict between the Persians and Greeks.

As they had in previous conflicts, the citizens of Tyre fled the city on the mainland and crowded onto an island offshore, which until this point had been an impregnable fortress. Enter Alexander the Great, who over the course of seven months dismantled the city and dumped it into the sea, building a huge causeway to the island. Then his troops were able to smash through the fortress walls and complete his conquest. Alexander's army marched onward, but his causeway remained. Now, the cape of Tyre is so big that it's difficult to tell what is island or the causeway.

Just thought you might like to know.

Question? How does Jackie's comments relate to the original Story? There are lots of lessons to learn from history. There is nothing to learn from speculation.

Very cool, thanks for the history lesson.

For those that want to find it on the satellite sites, it's at 33.27 N 35.2 E.

Thank you for the great tidbit of information!

Andy Bush is making a new history by single handedly starting the World War 111. This time history will show the secret was out while it was being done. Everyone around the world knows Bush wants a Middle East World and he put the dumbest appointees in position to make sure he could get away with it. As Bush plans his attacks, the rest of the world leaders are working together. Look at Russia and Venezuela. The future will show how all the leaders of the world moved forward together while the United States under the dictatorship of George W. Bush fell to nothing. The US is giving away more money then we have. Now Bush wants Iraq students to come to the US for a free education in our colleges. While the US education is going down hill and most can't afford to go to college because of the high cost. We are living history as we have the biggest story of all time. The year the US lost it's respect around the world. Oh don't worry, Americans are still liked but the world feels sorry for us as we sit and let Bush destroy this once great country.
