I would like someone to explain to me how you can put almost 17 gallons of gas in a 16 gallon tank that already has about 2 gallons of gas in it.....
It's bad enough that we are forced to pay these outrageous prices for something that you HAVE to have...but it's rubbing salt in the wounds to pay for gas you don't get...don't you think?

I agree with all I have read from above. I'm 77, and this is fact. 1979 or there about's COLA was about 14%. 1981 Good ole Reagan decided that by cutting Gas and heating oil from the CPI, ColA would drop. Since then Cost Of Living Average has been 3 - 4% Lets put gas and heating oil back into CPI. COLA would be about 25%, and our income would not be decending.

I have an idea, we could take say a billion or so of the oil companies profits (divided upbetween the different companies, it would only come to a few million, with all the corporate waste, they'd never even miss it!). We could use that money to subsidize the price at the pump. Oops! I woke up!

This is just part of an effort to make the public willing to accept drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge - you can see the results in the responses. Shallow values to cheerfully sacrifice someone or something else (caribou, Inuit) so we can have our gas cheap.

It's the same here in Australia "Angry Voter in (Anytown USA" May 4 2006 9:28:22 AM)...Our Government won't subsidize in anyway the fuel efficient cars.
Oil companies, Auto makers, the US Bush Government & the Howard Australian Government, work in unison for their mutual benifit! Big cars mean big profits...Brian Johnson Sydney Australia

Crude oil prices have dropped below $70 today and the response at the gas station is another price increase. If the price of crude goes up the response at the gas stations is an immediate price increase. Why isn't there an immediate price reduction when the price of crude goes down?

The answer is simple but yet I, a middle class single mom has it. Stop buying from the middle east! There is plenty of oil in Alaska and I'm sure the carabu wouldn't mind giving up some of there precious time to help the gas prices go down. Also, start making more hybrid vehicles, use florecent lighting, the lists goes on...There are many different options besides the government yet again putting out more money that we Americans apparently don't have.

it's sad when one must decide between gas for the car
or food for the family

I would much rather see Congress put money to work developing new energy sources and requiring better fuel economy than giving a handout. We need to solve this problem not just make it tolerable until after the election.

When it comes to oil and gas, the government ignores the people. They might create a show out of the whole ordeal, but they really don't care.
Did not President Clinton put a cap on gas prices during his admidistration? Why has Bush not tried?
Oh yeah, that takes some intellegence.

If Americans switched to florecent lihgt bulbs we could put a major dent in energy comsumption.
(Sent May 4, 2006 1:21:22 PM)
We've heard it all before, but this time, will Washington really put money back in your wallet?
hahaha that's hilarious - the question that is. the answer is quite sad and that is no.

What can the average person do about the Gas Price?
I plan to start riding my bike more and drive less.
Some people don't have the option.
Lea T, Lancaster Ca (Sent May 4, 2006 9:30:56 AM)
I imagine most Americans don't want money back in their wallet; they want the government to take actual steps to address the issue. Conservation is the key. The government should allow small, fuel efficient cars like they have in Europe to be sold in this country, and (for a while) subsidize the retail price to make them an attractive, affordable option. How about Smart cars for $7999? Seed the market and get people excited about conservation. It's unfortunate that we have such a dumbass in the white house during such a critical time in our Nations history. Between the policy failures and excessive spending, it's going to take us years to dig out from the horrors of the worst president ever.
Angry Voter, Anytown USA (Sent May 4, 2006 9:28:22 AM)
Get off the soap box about gas prices differences. First of all, the difference is the amount of tax each country puts on its gasoline. Further more, if our gasoline is so cheap why don't these other countries buy our gas?
