The Daily Nightly from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams

About this blog

The Daily Nightly began on May 31, 2005. As Brian wrote in his first post it aims to provide a narrative of the broadcast day and a window into the editorial process at NBC Nightly News. Brian weighs in every weekday and NBC News correspondents and producers post regularly.

Brian Williams became the seventh anchor and managing editor in the history of NBC Nightly News on December 2, 2004. Read his full biography.

Heading Home

The young woman stepped off the plane wearing jeans, a chunky sweater, and a camouflage jacket. With her large smile, she could have been any 28-year-old landing in Germany on holiday. But this was no ordinary traveler: Newly freed from her 82 days as a hostage in Iraq, Jill Carroll arrived Saturday in Germany. Mike Taibbi will tell us about the first stop on her way back home to the U-S.

There's nothing like a nice Saturday in April for a few interesting protests and rallies.

The immigration rallies continue in various towns across the nation today. The immigration debate is a tricky one for President Bush: it divides voters, Congress, even the President's own party. Kevin Corke followed President Bush to Mexico where issue of immigration was a hot topic, and he'll tell us what's ahead.

We're keeping an eye on a New Orleans rally and march...it seems to be getting a little heated there. Civil rights leaders are very concerned about the upcoming election, especially with so many displaced voters.

Overseas, our State Department producer Libby Leist is traveling with Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. About three hundred anti-war protestors greeted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw this morning outside the Town Hall in Blackburn, England.  Well, perhaps "greeted" isn't exactly the right word.

Jurors in the death penalty trial of Zacarias Moussaoui adjourned on Friday without reaching a verdict. They"ll return on Monday. to decide his fate.....but what's the verdict on how the FBI handled the investigation? Lisa Daniels will outline the questions being raised.

There's an interesting story about a young man whose first book of plays sold for a pound, but might sell this summer for, oh, the equivalent of $6 million.

We hope you join John Seigenthaler tonight. And watch out for those April Fools pranks in the meantime. I know we are.
