More questions than answers, Kennedy says
In his final blast at Alito this morning, Sen. Kennedy told Alito that the hearings had raised “even more questions about Judge Alito’s commitment to fairness and equality for all.”
Kennedy chided Alito for his 2000 speech to the Federalist Society about the theory of the unitary executive (which deals not with war powers but with administrative agencies such as the SEC)
Kennedy accused Alito of having “run away from this very radical and bizarre theory.”
On the Princeton alumni issue, Kennedy said, “I was pleased that Judge Alito distanced himself from CAP. But we still do not have a clear answer as to why Judge Alito joined this repulsive group in the first place.”
Earlier Kennedy said, “Thanks to your family for support they’ve given” – I didn’t get a chance to glance at Mrs. Alito at that very point.
Kennedy did not comment at all on the search of the CAP records which turned up nothing that would document Alito’s involvement in the group.

I read with amusement all of the comments about Judge Alito NOT answering questions. Maybe he should have answered with a simple yes or no as it appears that the panel does not understand the answer that is being given.

The best thing about Supreme Court hearings is that they reveal Democrats like Ted Kennedy to be arrogant, elitist hypocrites who have no agenda but opposition to anything Bush.
I'm sorry to see the hearings end - they are a national advertisement AGAINST Democrats every minute they are on-air.
Aren't you liberals PROUD of Ted Kennedy? Isn't he an impressive leader?
From my perspective Ted is a rich, pampered, drunken murderer who got away with manslaughter because the liberal press refused to cover his 'story'.
Shame! Shame!

WOW!! I applaud all comments re: Kennedy & the Chappaquidick incident. It has always boggled my mind why Kennedy is even allowed to sit on these hearings and judge everyone as if his life (or that of his family) was never tainted by any sort of scandal. I'd love to see Teddy on the "hot" seat one day and let us citizens cross examine him. Thanks for letting me vent.

I think that Senator Biden hit on something in his Today show comments. However, it's the inverse of his point. The hearings told us volumes about Judge Alito, and the Committee. Judge Alito was thoughtful, careful and very revealing of his positions, some set out by what he would not say. The Senators, bloviating mountebanks all, consistently tried to back the Judge into a corner with questions reminiscent of the old saw about still beating your wife. They wanted definitive statements about specific legal issues and even cases, which would leave Judge Alito to be branded unethical for setting for the his position on issues he may have to judge, or to take positions he would have to choke on in the future. I think the process, excruciating as it seems, serves its role. We know that Judge Alito is qualified, is not a political hack and merits lifetime tenure on the Court. The Senators must be reelected every six years. Oh, the wisdom of the Founding Fathers.

In reply to peirce. No Kenndy is not nominated to the supreme court he is only a United States senator.I guess what your saying is a senator should not be held acountable for his actions but a nominine for the supreme court should? Thats kind of crazy since it is the senators that make the laws that we live by. By the way if Ted Kenndy had been president during 9-11 or for the past few years he more that likly would have had the terroist over for dinner and try to degocate with them not to kill anymore Americans.Or better yet let France and Germany decide wheither or not we defend ourself. I for one am glad we have a president with guts and not a president want a be.

I echo the bloggers above....I find it amazing that the democratic party throws a character such as Sen. Kennedy to the forefront to question a person's integity....And let's not forget the plagiarism from Sen. Biden's past. Just the facts ma'am! Just the facts!

Ted Kennedy represents the disaster that is the Democratic Party these days. All they can do is wail and cry and complain while offering nothing constructive. I suggest Mr. Kennedy examine the skeletons in his own closet before he blasts someone else.

say what you will about kennedy but he is not trying to be on the supreme court-alito is. so whether you think kennedy is a hypocrite or not is irrelevant. he's asking that alito have good character. it doesn't matter whether he does or not. by the way, it wasn't kennedy who sent our brave young men and women to war in iraq unnecessarily-he tried to stop it. he may have done bad things in the past but they didn't affect so many other people. get your priorities straing

Kenndy is a president want a be.He really does need to look at his own past and some of the groups that he was a active member of. He could never get elected for president due to his own past.He had an afair on his wife got caught because he was drunk and left some poor girl dyeing while he was trying to think of a lie to get himself out of trouble. He has spent his life in the senate judgeing everyone eles.I think that Alito has more hosesty and intergity in his little finger than Kenndy in his whole body

I echo all the comments above. I live in Mass. and have never voted for Kennedy, but the boobs in Boston rule the roost and keep putting that calcified, idiotic, hypocrite back in office.

Let's see Mr. Kennedy, have you heard of the saying "pot calling kettle black"???

Ted Kennedy is a hypocrite. What right does he have challenging anyone's credibility after he left Mary Jo Kopechne to drown and went to his hotel to draft a cover-up? Kennedy has no credibility whatsoever and should have been indicted for the Kopechne affair. Alito has more character and morality in his little finger than Kennedy has as a whole.
Ron Risley (Sent Jan 12, 2006 12:11:54 PM)
I believe Kennedy has more Questions about his past than answers, and if he doesn't I do. He is a prime example of why we need term limits.
Mike Weber (Sent Jan 12, 2006 11:33:59 AM)
When I watched Senator Kennedy during the hearings my mind went back to Chappaquiddick and I wondered where the "fairness" and justice was for Mary Jo Kopechne.
Elizabeth Johnson (Sent Jan 12, 2006 10:55:53 AM)
So I guess Ted Kennedy, made a fool of himself (again) for nothing! He should be able to seperate his dislike (and thats the nice way of putting it) for Pres. Bush from his JOB of determaining whether Judge Alito would make a good Supreme Court Justice with out getting personal.
