Confirmation in a hi-tech world

Ok, I admit it.  Unless you really - and I mean really are into this stuff - the hearings today have been an especially tough watch.  But it is not so bad if you're inside the room.

In fact, if it were possible, I'd propose they install twice as many cameras, so viewers at home could see more than just the committee and the occasional wide shot.  I'd show them the gallery and all the interesting faces from school-aged children to "seasoned" citizens, the movement inside the room from the steady stream of fresh-from-college staffers with their reams of memos to the constant jockeying among the photo corps on the floor.

And I'd propose using a sports-styled clock at the bottom of the screen so viewers at home would know how much longer they'd have to suffer through a particular speaker.  I can hear it now... "Oh, great, he's got 7 more minutes... I think I'll surf the net for a while and come back when he's stopped yapping!).  Now THAT would have been better.  I'm not saying more people would watch, but those who do watch would enjoy it more.

Speaking of more technology, the room's wireless internet service is up and running and there's not a table in the room without at least three Blackberries or Treos.  And I can report there was a tech first today, as the Senate used video conferencing during a Supreme Court confirmation hearing for the first time.  Judge Leonard Garth testified on behalf of his former law clerk (Judge Alito) via video conferencing from Phoenix, Arizona.

And President Bush called Judge Alito from Air Force One, en route to Florida today.  The President called to congratulate him for doing a great job in the hearings and reiterate his appreciation for Alito serving on the nation's highest court.  "Proud of the way you handled it, you showed great class." the President said to Alito.

I feel that the news media should have not told of Mrs. Alito's response to her husband being grilled by those Senator's. Especially, Kennedy!!!
The man that appologized was right in doing so.
thanks
Sharon

Just like Judge Alito hearings to use your quote from last night are "done" so am I with your show. I started watching your nightly news show after Dan Rather went over to the dark side hoping for balanced coverage.
That it is clearly is not the cast. I wated for two day hoping to hear at least some outraged at Senator Ted Kennedy the other Democrats conduct, that was not to be.
I got more news from J Leno monologe about a 23 minute question from the Democrats. And Kennedy reading from a magazine published some 11 years after Alito graduated.
You do not have it covered. This was not a heated debate it would have made Joe McCarthy proud.
You missed a golden opperunity to set the record streight and keep a viewer.
Please forward a copy of this to your local channel in Tucson (channel 4 KVOA) Kathleen Choal News Director, as this goes for he show as well.
Good Luck.
Jim Wilson.

Mrs. Alito should get an Oscar for her crying proformance it was right on time. Alito will do as his heart tells him, that is abolish woman's rights, civil rights and abortions. This has been a plan for a long time and now that the corrupt/evil people are in office change to bring back the past is here. The only question is will Americans stand for a government with sole power while not letting people have any freedoms? Well Bush did say he thinks the Constitution is just a piece of paper and he is the sole power aka King George.
