"Why does Brian Williams hate America?
Sure, he makes it clear that he is filled with Hate towards Bush. But does he have to hate all of us?
Are you not paying him enough? If not, why does he blame America for his neer-do-well?
Maybe Brian Williams ought to get a factory job.
Awaiting your answer. (I assume that you respect your viewers.)"

please, please quit making america and bush sound like haters. it is not president bush's fault we are having all these problems with immigrants, especially the mexicans. no human minds any immigrant being in america as long as they follow the rules of our society, meaning becoming citizens, paying taxes, following our rules and for crying out loud, leave our anthem alone. i feel we are just fine with the way it is in english and the original words.
all this marching and not going to work and not spending money on this day is only going to make real citizens bitter and resentful of them trying to run our country the way they feel it should be run over by them. look at the state of mexico, who would blame them for wanting to come to a better place, but don't try to pull us down to mexico's level - hell, they're back in the same boat again when they act like they have the right to demand anything from the greatest country in the world. we have given enough - get with the program and contribute instead of rape our system.

It is atrocious to call Brian Williams as one who hates America. It is pathetic for someone to question Brian’s patriotism. It is not hatred; rather it is simple honesty and transparency. Being honest, at times, requires reporting things, that I guess, makes the journalists themselves uncomfortable and in such situations, it is they who have to go through it. I live in India and have been watching Brian from the days he was at MSNBC, CNBC, and now here at NBC. My understanding is that Brian does his best to present the truth as he sees and understands it. I am sure millions of other faithful viewers would also feel this way. The very fact that he is able to pen down his own shortcomings or that of his program, clearly illustrates the extent of his honesty and transparency. Brian’s professionalism and dedication to reporting are remarkable. He is trusted and loved not only by the American public but also by people around the globe for who he is and for what he does. I believe the person who had sent the e-mail has a blurred vision and hopes he gets its corrected.

I agree with Mark above. Just because someone critizes another doesn't mean "hate." I don't hate George Bush. I do deplore his policies and believe he is pushing this country in the wrong direction. But "hate?" Not Bush personally, but Bush's actions.

I know that on a blog I visit quite frequently, "Why does (insert name here) hate America?" is tongue in cheek for someone who actually states something that makes sense, but is in opposition to the Administration talking points. It is based on the Administration using that phrase a while back when someone didn't agree with their policies. I am sure Brian will take it for what it is worth...not much.

Isn't it curious: TV used to be called a "cool medium." Was that Marshall McLuhan? When did it change? More importantly, how? TV, especially TV news, now elicits such torrid responsed from its viewers. The slightest perceived departure from whatever ortodoxy one holds provides too many viewers with an excuse to turn up the heat. All I can say, Brian, is keep cool.

The excellent coverage during Hurricane Katrina also convinced me to make NBC's Nightly News my news of choice, particularly Brian Williams being there and reporting first hand. Keep up the good work and remember, you'll never be able to please everybody, so just do the best work you can - which I belive you do. Thanks, Fran Durden

Mr Williams is the best of all anchors that appear on TV today. I am dumbfounded as to how anyone might think that he hates America. More and more it seems that towing some party line is more important than seeking the truth on the many issues that face our nation. Those that sell their soul to some political party would do well to move to other countries like North Korea were such behavior is normal.

Ignore this person Mr. Williams...you're doing a well-of-a-good-job!!!

Brian, thanks for doing such a good job. I used to watch Peter Jennings--faithfully, for many years--and missed him greatly when his illness forced him to step down. After a while, I went looking around, sampling other broadcasts, trying to find a voice--a sensibility--I could respect. When I saw your coverage of Katrina, I knew I'd found what I was looking for--someone who cares about the people of this country, someone willing to tackle the hard issues. Thank you for your integrity and for the hard work you do each day.

In response to the original post, I can only guess that "Mr. Brian Williams Hates America," has watched one too many broadcasts of the O'Reilly factor. It seems the general sentiment out of that camp is that any newscaster that does not laud the work of our ultra-conservative politicians is therefore anti-American. Regardless of one's political allegiences, I think it is quite difficult to deny the fact that things aren't entirely "rosy" in our nation today. With that said, I consider it to be the responsibility and obligation of all media outlets to openly acknowledge the state of affairs in our country and to encourage the general population to enter candid discussion about the policies of our elected officials. I thank Brian Williams for his willingness to do so and applaud him for his contributions to this great country and its citizenry.

To answer his own question, I suggest the anonymous e-mailer click on the words: "Read his full biography." in the left column of this blog, and learn about Brian's real relationship with America.

Does Brian Williams hate President Bush? I think I like Brian even more now!!

WOW, I never would have thought anyone would take time and write nonsense like that! Brian, don't worry about that, because it is NOT true! I'm only 18, and I enjoy watching the news whenever you anchor it. I find that you are a very compassionate person, and I especially saw that when you covered the tsunami in Indonesia. Thank you for answering the question about how Richard Engel is able to do his job in such dangerous conditions. He is doing a great job!

I'm back living in The Big Easy and our household watches your broadcast faithfully. Keep up the good work. And thanks to all at NBC News for opening a New Orleans bureau and not forgetting about us down here.

I'm tired of people labeling someone who they perceive as not liking, not agreeing with, or reporting news that is unflattering to our president as someone who hates America. I don't know too many Americans who hate America. Disagreeing with the policies of the administration does not equate to hating America and the people who suggest such things are usually the ones who don't have the faintest idea of what being an American is all about. Brian, I don't need to tell you this but I will anyway. Keep your head high and bring us the news!
Mark Peterson (Sent Oct 26, 2005 5:43:11 PM)
Unlike the emailer above, I get no sense of Brian Williams' hating anyone but rather of his caring. Frankly, I switched to NBC News to watch Brian Williams anchor because of his coverage during Hurricane Katrina.
